Gordie,
All the trees in turn 2 have little yellow bows on them. I looks like they are going to be history.
Bathrooms have walls and a roof so Dave can look forward to that.
Could he possibly be leading the way to a future where BFR is considered not only a fun but a SAFE race track as well?
I was originally worried about this new owner being another car guy, but I have to admit I'm really liking his style so far! :thumb:
finally.....they're gone?? How cool is that? Now you can really see some racing through turn 2!!!!!!
that's awesome. sounds like the new owner is a pretty active feller.
Judging by how excited you guys are I`m guessing the guard rail is gonna get moved also?? :err:
With 35 days left until Blackhawk's first event, it probably will be fall when all the trees and the barriers get moved and rebuilt in the requirements for SCCA. Some of the trees will go away, which will improve some of the sun that will warm that part of the track, which will be great, but I can't say I know when they are going to get it done. Too many things still happening, and the weather hasn't been kind this season.
Seven pieces of air fence were added this year. A big area of trees were removed in the carousel and in the bus stop. I think they are moving over toward seven to smooth out the ruts and stuff there. One was addressed over the holidays.
It's going to get better, but it's going to take time.
There's going to be a tire maintenance party on April 5th, a Saturday. We're invited. Beer and chili will be available. The car clubs have done a lot to support this. I'll put up a post when I get some more details. I think it starts at 9AM.
nice thats good news, i like this new guy more and more, now i see that on the blackhawk website home page there is a picture of Jason and i racing, me like
I hope the wall gets moved in 2. I never thought about it while I was racing. After working the corner in the 3 and watching 2 people hit the was hard it in one day, it kinda scares me. I can't wait to get out to the track and see all the changes in person.
I recall in 2003 making a fit about the trees in turn 2. It's about time! I guess I won't be the only one holding it wide open in 5th gear there anymore now that less guys will be scared about ending their life there!
Now I think of it Brian, we won't be sliding through turn 2 almost highsiding into 3 when it's damp out since the tree won't water the track down till they are dry. I had a couple moments at that spot.
I'm really looking forward to riding their again :thumb:. The only other complaint I have about the track of which I haven't heard anything would be turn 4. I have no problems there but if a situation were to occur where the front tucks from oil entering that corner I would be face first into that wall and taking a hospital ride for sure. I don't think about things like that when I'm riding but outside of the track it worries me for sure.
Maybe move the wall back so the bikes don't fly into the spectators and we have more room to slow down before impact. If they filled the exit full of peagravel it wouldn't matter since the high curb on the outside of 4 would just ramp us into the wall over the gravel anyways.
I'm not a fan of peagravel when it comes to bike damage but it has saved my ass a few times for sure.
I also mentioned back in 2003 to paint the curbing like yellow or red/white to help give the riders better reference points around the track. It's hard to see over the curbs while turning in when your handlebar is almost scraping them at the apex. Plus it would dress up the tracks appearance.
I'm happy for the changes thus far although I would have still raced there.
I'm a big advocate for rider safety. I don't skimp on my riding gear but that don't help if you hit a wall head on anyways.
I remind everyone to show how much they apprieciate the changes to the owner. I can't wait to meet this guy.

Jan haven't you heard the old song, "Tie a ribbon around the old oak tree"? ha
"Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree"
The symbol became widely known in civilian life in the 1970s. It was the central theme of the popular song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree", Written by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown and recorded by Tony Orlando and Dawn among many others, as the sign a released convict requested from his wife or lover, to indicate that she still wanted him and that he would therefore be welcome to return home. He would be able to see it from the bus driving by their house, and would stay on the bus in the absence of the ribbon. He turned out to be very welcome: there were a hundred yellow ribbons.
So maybe a Blackhawk Farms nymph tied them in the trees, she getting ready for the next season.....

This is the view from Corner 1 looking towards 3 and the new buildings. Trees are not all gone but it makes a difference.
I hope I don't make a mistake and pee in the wrong building...
I'm with you 100% Don........
I hope I don't try and do Tech Inspections in the wrong building! :ahhh:
'Come back after you safety wired that drain plug.'

Careful, Dave might claim this building too to harvest students...
Looks nice, the whole place should get the same siding/paint....
Long term, certainly.
What, siding and such or you harvesting students?

LOL!
Siding and such. I have to evaluate if I want to keep teaching schools every year. Pay is non-existant, but it's fun. I could actually do something valuable financially.
Progress,very nice.Any word on a re-pave of 1-bus stop and 7??That would be nice.
Yes, pavement should sit idle over the winter after its redone. Those areas weren't repaved in November of 2007.
Personally, sure, I'd like perfect pavement, but the 600 lap times continued to come down. It's still tons better than it was during the 2002 season before the repave in November 2002.
Oh well,at least ya know the front's gonna slide a bit,I guess watch lean angle, and the rear could spin up,The pitting at least is off the race line for us.It is exciting to see some major progress at good ole' BHF!!
