Post by: Burt Munro on February 02, 2008, 09:24:35 AM
I know you've seen this scam a hundred times.  But I think this must be the most poorly written scam I've ever seen.  Hopefully his excuse is that English is a foreign language to him! (or maybe any language is foreign to him!!)   :jerkoff:

A real one going around is as follows:

Someone claiming to be from the Court calls you and says you missed appearing for Jury Duty so there now is a bench warrent out for you and you should turn yourself in ASAP. You then claim not ever having recieved the notice and they say "Your Joe Blow at 123 Main Street, phone number 12345678, correct?", and when you say yes they say "Well your the person we have listed". You then argue with them a little and eventually they say they want to make sure there isn't a mix-up so they want to confirm your Social Security number, when you say "You tell me what you have?" they return with "We are not allowed to randomly give out anyones SS#, if you want me to check this over the phone I will need your SS#, otherwise just come down to the Court House." If you give them your SS# they then claim something like 2 of the numbers were reversed or it was a number off and they will correct it and remove the Bench Warrent and they appreciate your co-operation in the matter.

They now have your SS# and all your other basic info from the Phone Book or City Directory, combined together they use it for Identity Theft.  :banghead:
