Ok, if allowed, I'll rob where I can. :ahhh:
Here's my story.
I have an SV1000 that I bought in 2007 for racing. Specifically, to race for Suzuki contingency. What do I do with that contingency? I'm old enough and crusty enough that I have no one knocking on my door anymore for any factory or support rides, but after loosing my mother to cancer I started a pediatric cancer program to support some non profit pediatric cancer programs out there. Lost my father to cancer a couple years after I started doing it too.
As some know, the SV1000 is not a model for the 2008 year. With that, well, no contingency is needed to move new bikes. I use that contingency to give money to these pediatric cancer programs. Additionally, I take money track side for them also. I'm not a non profit organization. Spending the money to do that would just be money that I could give to a non profit, so it's just not in my interest to do that. I'm a conduit basically. Both pediatric cancer programs are good in that the monies they get goes to research rather than administration.
So, how would I like to rob everyone?
I'd like to keep the SV. I'd like to race it. But I have it for sale (http://www.sv-portal.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28665) because I can ride another bike to make that money. Will be a much harder class to make money in, but I can still do it.
In the US, it's tax time. Some may give to charitable organizations and the like for tax reasons in addition to just having favorites.
If I could generate a reasonable amount of donations to the two programs I work with, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, I'll keep the SV1000 and race it again in 2008.
Goals: $2500+ in donations. These are the places where they could be done. PBTF (http://www.firstgiving.com/SuperDaveRFK) MACC (http://www.firstgiving.com/superdavewi)
Where: My proposed schedule is here The SV would be raced in Supertwins classes. I would most likely be in two to three, if not more races on the, GSXR750. If the SV stays, the schedule will probably change a little in that we might race it in MotoST at two events. One would be on the same weekend as one race in Minnesota, so we'd skip out on that one to do the other.
Sack it up and do it yourself. My thoughts exactly. Still, being on the road so much, I don't have very regular employment. When it's warm, I'm lucky enough that I fill in with some labor and marketing stuff for a hardscape contractor locally, but teaching a riding/racing school isn't a living. And neither are winter work. Makes my life complicated, and I'm luck enough to have a caring wife.
Racing for pediatric cancer is the focus of what I do now in my older age. So, I have to look at the SV in how it moves me forward.
So, that's my idea for robbery.
I still continue and try to support the road racing specific organizations, and we all should. This would be something additional, folks.
Someone throw me some ideas. Thanks!
And I'm on a dead line too.
Talk to American Suzuki?
I'm gonna try that too.
are you going to have 2008 decals available?
if you want to do the moto st round in New jersey this summer i can do my best to help you out. and hopefully race on your team there
I've got to get some 2008 ones made. Might change the logo too.
NJ? Don't know. If I do any, I know that I would be looking at Heartland Park Topeka and Road America.
let me know when you get the 2008 decals
Can do. I might go after a redesign for the logo.
Need to figure out the SV stuff too. I'm giving myself ten days to work it out.
Dave not sure if it would help or not but I am willing to donate my services as a body shop for your SV. I can help you with paint work and vinyl graphics for your bike during the season. While I do not have an abundance of cash I can always work few extra hours during the week to help you out for you cause. I have also lost a parent to cancer..Bob
I understand where you're at with your family, Bob.
I certainly appreciate the offer. Normally, it would be something that I need, but the SV is ready to go with paint and decals. Two sets, no less.
For cancer research, they won't take the trophies, unfortunately. If I could do that, I'd trade a bunch in. Wouldn't we all.
Dave, Bob (plasticweld) from empiregp.com, does an awesome job and has a real good turn around time in the event of...incidents...on the track. Count me in for donation, and I say this on the forum, not to boast, but because I believe strongly in what you are doing. I visit young cancer patients, and almost every kid views us as heroes on our bikes anyhow, but to give of yourself in this way, to bring hope where things can look pretty dark in the cancer arena, that really is the heart of a true hero. And I believe there are a lot of our racing bros and sisters, who can also use our bikes and love for racing, to make a difference in the lives around em. We all benefit when another racer stands up as a leader, especially to help those in need.
I'd kiss you right now...
I needed that. Thanks.

I was going to tell you not to encourage them, but I'm too late. ;)
And we'll be looking for the amputated limb for missing the banquet, by the way. Where's that stick? Bah... :spank:
