Can`t believe everyone hasn`t jumped all over this!!! :pop:
I did, but that was in the GP schedule thread.
Hastings is Midwest, but Gateway isn't. Is that how you're reading it?
Yup. I don`t really have a problem with it. I`m just suprised there wasn`t five pages of whining!
Maybe they don't know yet.

I don't think that I will be going.
If the GP region can drive to RA, what's the problem? I live in St. Louis, but run MW because all these tracks are closer. But other than gateway, there's no track I go to that is less the 5 hours away.
For some reason many of the racers in MW think the region revolves around chicago or madison... but actually it goes down into Kentucky.
I'm just happy that no one has to risk their life at Gateway. If Dean and MCRA want to run that sh*thole, ok, but having a combined event there just increases the odds of someone getting hurt.
I went out to Hastings last year and had a blast. Talk about a nice facility. It was very impressive. Yeah, the drive was a PITA but it was worth it. You can buy a condo on the property and live there if you like. Also after the practice on Saturday, the track owner loaded us all up on his school bus from hell and took us go cart racing.

Well, Road America is a premium track. I think I've went through this before, but I'll state it again. You've got special tracks that are unique, and there's an expense that comes with them. Road America, VIR, Daytona, Barber, HPT. They have traditionally been locations for these multiple region events. Often coupled with ASRA Pro events.
MPH isn't VIR, RA, Barber, or HPT. The Midwest already has the combined date at HPT which was always the heart of the GP/SC region from day one in 1992.
As for Gateway, bull ring? Yes. Higher incidence of injuries? I can't say that it's true. Whether that's because of a real recognition of risk at someplace like Gateway vs places where riders might not think about it, I can't say.

George Anderson - who owns MPH gives a damn! Dean was called in to consult during design and construction to keep us MC racers safe. It is a fun track and the facilities are seemingly always under construction for improvements & additions. It wouldn't surprise me to see the place much like HP before long. In GP we love MPH, :kissy: It's worth traveling to ride there. The local community is behind the place and there is plenty to do after riding. George has been known to load up that bus and take everyone bowling, water park, carting, dinner, etc. Ironically people generally seem to enjoy adult beverages while traveling on that bus, but I couldn't confirm or deny that. MPH is a place that you'd never expect in central Nebraska! :thumb: :thumb:

See, that shows that you weren't born in Nebraska. Nebraskanese usually expect it, just never tell anyone about it.

A premium track is no different than any other track. Its just one more stop on the schedule. If RA wasn't a twin sprint weekend the GP turnout wouldn't be spectacular. Same with Topeka. How many Chicago people would go if it was a regular single points weekend.
It appears that Gateway does not have significantly higher rate of incidences than anywhere else. Is that because it really is safe enough, or because racers see a concrete or tire wall straight in front of them and slow down. I don't have a whole lot of experience at Gateway, maybe 10 race/track days, but I know I'm scared. I've only been to MAM one time and I'm not scared there. In terms of layout and safety I'd consider RA a 1st rate track, Topeka and Daytona are 2nd rate tracks, Blackhawk is a 3rd rate track. Gateway is somewhere between 10 and 100. Safety sucks, management sucks, facilities suck, configuration sucks, surface sucks, water drainage sucks. How many ways does it have to suck before everyone agrees that is sucks.

Where the hell is Hastings?
What is the track itself like?
Alan Wilson track, Guy.
About 150 miles west of Omaha, 170 miles west of MAM.
Here you go-
http://www.racemph.com/
Its really a fun layout, flowing, great surface, super safe with tons of run-off, bathrooms and showers are nicer than home. The town and people are very welcoming to racers.
for me its a 12 hour drive :wah: (from central il) but i've heard many positive comments about the layout, surface and facility....should we have another race @ BHF? I'm looking forward to MPH!
Actually according to the schedule I just looked at there are NO double points in MW this year.

BHF may 10-11
its on the revised schedule
And a the first one, May 10-11.
AS an FYI Jeanne, our webmistress, has to change/create the website schedule (http://www.ccsracing.us/schedules/2008/schedule.html) from the one that is done at the office as a PDF (http://www.ccsracing.us/schedules/2008/2008%20asra%20ccs%20schedule.pdf)to have the breakout to the different regions, series, results etc.
It takes a little bit of time to do but it will match shortly.
As an FYI the first BHF May 10-11 and the last BHF Sept 27-28 are double points rounds
never been to that track but the lay out looks oober fun

+1 MEeeelion! My crash there in June put me in the local hospital for about 4 hours. George Anderson followed the Ambulance to the Hospital, helped me out of the back and into the ER, stayed with me and kept me up to date on everything that was going on, and even got my number and called a couple weeks later to make see how recovery was going. It's not the closest track for me (about 6 hours one way), but even if it was 600+ miles, I'd still be a customer for life.
I'll just chime in on the pros of MPH. I didn't go bowling, but went to the kart track and the water park. I've also been on a tour of the Condo's. George is an enthusiast at heart and a player in the community. It's clear once you've been to Hastings that the town's people recognize the benefit of the track to their commerce. The layout of the track makes it fun even without any elevation changes and the surface is very smooth. Labor Day weekend was my last trip there and you can just start to notice some ripple in a few corners from the cars. The facilities are nice and well maintained. Now if they just keep the alfalfa mowed. ::)
The alfalfa was my only gripe the first time we went there.
MPH is by far my favorite place to go. The drive sucks for us (6.5 hours) but the people there make up for it. It's such a great place to go and get treated like you live there.
Hastings is a very fun track to ride on. You really have to plan your passes and put the corners together. Definately a rider's track. Here is some more footage of us playing in a track day. Skip the first 3 min, we accidently went out in the "sighting lap" and got red flagged...

I hope to see everyone there!!
Here's one more video from Hastings for those who have never been there:
http://www.DucatiOmaha.com/video/MPH20070512.wmv
I love that track, it's a really fun layout with all of the flowing corners and no real straight, and as has been said the facilities are great.
Thanks to all for the great input. I`m actually really looking forward to that weekend now! :thumb:
Tommy, I'm having a real hard time imagining you in GREEN?!?!
But anyway..... Congrats on the #2 plate!! :thumb:
Congrats Tommy on your #2 plate................................

That's how rumors get started ya know....
This year will include a short Bud River Walk to our Cabin on the Platte. You will find appropriate refreshments every 100' or so...and easy George's fishing lessons for those who need a break from the pressure of riding! Also including Horse Shoe tournament for Cash and other entertainment. Rustic cabin features indoor plumbing and mediocre air conditioning at no additional charge. The Bacardi Bus will be full I'm sure...standing room only.

You will not find another track owner more hospitable than George. Good times on and off the track.
