Title: Steel Shoe Fund Ice Race 1/19 and 1/20/07
Post by: grasshopper on December 18, 2007, 01:40:57 AM
Anyone planning on this? I've been wanting to do this race for a couple years now. I have limited ice racing experience but I can do decent wheelies. Will I get smoked out there? More than likely, but it sounds like a fun time. I heard that Jesse Janisch guy is the fastest human being on a set of ice tires. Is this true? Is he really human?   :err: :ahhh:

Nick - no worries - I have never ridden on the ice but I am thinking about this race.... Gonna try to get some riding time in here before the race and make my decision closer to the race.... Let me know if your gonna run it... Maybe I'll see you on a lake soon.....

Scotty, PM me your number, I'll give you a call and we'll for sure do some riding. We can roost the shit out of Super Dave and Brian Lacy.  :lmao: I should have my ice bike together (hopefully) this weekend if I can get Gus (resurrection) to help me make some brackets for the ice fenders.

I saw your punk ass on Speed Channel the other night hyperventilating at Road America after you got done riding in Moto-ST. Good job out there man!  :thumb:  Mad props!

Ice fenders huh??? I was thinkin it might be a good idea to use some of them... But then again - I have no idea when I would get the time to make some.... The Speed thing - I have only seen about the last 15 minutes of the race - So I missed the part where they had me in the hot pits.... But you gotta give me a break - It was hot that weekend :)  Anywho check ur PM's......

To race the 3 hour and for common regard for your riding friends (we can call it etiquette) it's a good idea to put fenders over the front and rear wheels. I heard a horror story last year from one of the guys talking about a guy that got a foot ball size chunk of flesh gouged out of the back of his leg. Him and his buddy went into a corner really tite and the front wheel touched the back of the guys leg.

Ice fenders might be required for the race.

Exactly.

I think there's a guy in Frankfurt that is producing some.  I don't have the web address, but if you look under cool ice fenders in google.  Reason I think you need to use "cool" is I think that's his last name.

It is an AMA sanctioned event and ice tires are required!! And don't scrimp on the quality. If they break you'll get a chance to repair them. If you can't, you're out of the race......... rules and all ya know?

Jesse is FAST on the ice but so are many others in this race. Top national riders have been known to show up for it.

I've heard guys say it was worth riding just to watch the pro riders pass them..............
