Title: New bike - complete bike with pics
Post by: tzracer on December 07, 2007, 07:15:40 PM
Well at least the frame. Picked the frame/fork up from the Waterford factory today. Dropped it off at BicycleWise (Whitewater,Wi) to be assembled. Should have it by next weekend. Then I can stare at it all winter.

Special thanks to to Mr. Spyderchick (Roger) for the paint and decal.

Oh, Paul, you and your Serotta don't stand a chance.

Um, where's the motor go?

The engine goes on the seat, or at least that is where I put my BILF biker bod.

Nice!  Didn't they make the Schwinn Paramount's for a while too?

Looks nice, what components are you putting on it?

We'll have to do a solo challenge at BHF, those pretty lugs look kinda heavy, should be some stiff competition though.

Yes, it is the old Paramount factory. Schwinn would not sell the name, so they picked Waterford. Less than a mile from my house. It is a true custom frame - spent about 2 to 2.5 hours at the factory getting fitted.

Yeah, Paul those lugs are sooo heavy (note - 50cm frame). It will really slow me down. Crit rear triangle with a front triangle that will work for centuries or double metrics in August.

Most of the parts are the upgrade parts off my Trek (only way my wife would buy it - it is a present).
Campy Chorus other than Record FD and Ultegra brakes
Chris King head set, Ritchey stem, FSA bars
Thompson post, Fizik Arione saddle
Campy Zonda wheels

Destined to be a Serotta killer :)

Sounds like good stuff, I'm really looking forward to being healthy enough to do the double next summer. I missed doing that this year but our ride in August was a lot of fun. Bike Psychos Double can't match your scenery but they have the BEST food of any bike ride I have ever done.

See you in May.  :thumb:

Sweet, Campy!

I need new slicks for my Pinarello.

I should probably plan on riding it first though.   :wtf:

Very nice bike Brian - It should look really nice once you get it all together..... Mine might not be as light as yours - But I rode from my house in Lemont Il to the Stiles in Darien,Wi - I think it was 98 miles - about just over 5 hours over all - 4 and a half pedaling. One flat and a stop for water....The guy I did it with does a century just about every weekend - I was surprised when he couldn't keep pace with me.... Wish I got more of an opportunity to ride this past season - Kinda hard with the race schedule I had.... Still riding on the trainer - Listing  to spin classes on the mp3.... But I think it went well for my first year - Just over 1500 miles..... I am really looking forward to next year - Think I might try a couple races :)

Got a bike in the trainer already, it is going to be a long winter.

Right now I am planning on doing the Kenosha-Racine bike club century in May. Paul (Hawk) ants to do a couple centuries and a double metric in August. Why don't you and Mehgan plan on joining us.

Many people who ride long distance don't really ride that fast, often times under 20 mph actual riding average.
Title: Re: New bike!
Post by: HAWK on December 08, 2007, 10:37:09 PM
When I used to race I worked on keeping a high average but now that I only ride recreationally I like to do about a 15 average for centuries. That way you can go with friends and  :blahblah:

I'm not sure where you're located Scotty but if anywhere near Coal City you should plan on joining Brian and my brother and I for the Bike Psychos Double next August, I think that's close to you. 125 miles and they have great food at the rest stops.

Roger says "you're welcome!" ;)

Just so the peeps know, that's a custom Waterford 'decal" (actually sprayed). Brian chose the font, so right now, his is the only one in the world like that. Pretty sweet!

Richard (Schwinn) said at first he did not want to do the decal because it was not the usual Waterford decal and wasn't sure he wanted others to see it and also want custom decals. I told him he should tell people it is an option only for Waterford residents.

Bike turned out much better than I thought, can't wait until I get the complete bike.

i picked up a nice peddle bike a few months ago. i didn't get much time on it before it started getting too cold though. it's enjoyable as hell though. i rigged some lights up and was going out when i got in from work around 1 or 2am and riding. it was totaly quiet and not a single car around the back county roads for the entire ride that late.
congrats on it. no  if we could just get rid of this damned snow.

Actually I feel like I have accomplished more after riding my bicycle than my motorcycle.

Court Jester you will have to come along on some rides this summer. Up for riding a century or 2?

OK, I guess I need to go out in the garage and take pictures of my bike.

First Schwinn Paramount built in January 1977.  (Was Roger working there then?)            P-13 model, full Campy Super Record.  700 C rims on Weyless sealed bearing hubs.
Phil Wood Bottom Bracket.

About the only thing I'd have to update would be the wheels and something more than a 6 sprocket rear cluster.

Rode RAGRAI 3 times.  Too many centuries too count and KIller Hill 64 in LaCrosse a couple of times.

Hate to think what it would cost to duplicate this bike today.  You'd be sick if you knew the deal I got when I bought it!!!

And look at me today - the perfect example of fitness!!!  (cough, cough, lying, cough)  :thumb:

That would be a 'no'. He was in college back then, I believe.

I would like to do something like that - Currently I am living in Lemont which is about 35 minutes from Coal City - But by March I will be living in Delevan,Wi.... That doesn't mean I can't make the trip down.... I am really looking forward to doing allot more riding next season.... Although doing a ride where they provide stops for food would be something new - I'm used to eating Shot Blocks and Gel packs :)

I would love to. keep in mind though, i am as slow one this bike as i am on the track and i cry a whole lot more. I can hold a 15mph speed but i was only doing 20 miles or so at a time on pretty flat ground. i only had a few weeks to ride after i got it before the temps started dropping into the 20's and i wussed out.
i hope you guys will wait for me. but pm me when it gets warmer and you're ready to head out. bring some baby wipes. i'll need'em

Jester, don't worry, we are very sympathetic and will patiently listen to all your whining..err crying.

Get a trainer and do some indoor riding. Not the most fun but it does help. I use Spinervals DVDs. The fitness series (4) is a good start. I have heard that the competition series can be quite difficult.

We could do some warmup rides such as the 40 mile Alpine Valley route (http://www.backyardbikes.com/Routes.asp). Paul, myself, and Paul's brother did a metric century with the same hill, I really didn't think it was that big of a deal. Just watch out for flying frame pumps on the decent. Oh, we will wait (and not laugh too much) if you take the alternate route :)

50/34 compact crank, 13-26 ten speed cassette. I like to climb. Like Paul said I like to spin, generally about 95 to 105 rpm.

Trainers are boring as all hell - But if you do it right - come next season riding on the road will seem easy... I personally use the Spinerval stuff - But I load the audio onto my MP3 and go to town while watching roadracing DVD's....
Very nice bike Brian - I'm thinking about upgrading my bike too - Some Pink Bar tape!!!!! About all the budget can afford right now.... I helped Mark install the new computer on his bike today - He's all excited that he is gonna have someone to ride with around Delevan Lake this year - I told him we are gonna have to see who can do the most laps :) It doesn't sound like he is all that interested in doing any century rides tho.... I'll work on him.... I'll upload pics of my bike after I pimp the tape.... Every time I go to the bike shop it's like a kid in a candy store - I would like to do some upgraded wheels soon.....
