This is for non sponsorered riders of course. I was wondering, barring impacts due to crashes, how often do others replace their helmets? Just curious.........
K
I've always crashed them and then replaced them. Never replaced it if it wasn't crashed.
2 years. Or when it gets funky...if you know what I mean. ;)
2 years barring any crashes sounds about right. There's usually some shiny new model that I can't live without by then.
You mean to tell me you have to replace them? ::)

What he said
I replace my helmet every year... (if it makes through the year)
For the 2nd year, I use it as a backup. In case I damage my primary helmet or for rain races.
Most of the time, the main helmet doesn't make it through a full season anyways.
XIII
I replace them when they crack, or when I can afford to - which is when they crack.
Typically, anytime it hits the ground...replace it. It used to be that the eps liners would start to degrade after 3 or 4 years so the manufacturers recom'ded to replace them then. But liners and shells have come a long way so it would probably be best to follow your specific helmet manufacturers rec's for the model helmet you have. Most manufacturers will evaluate a crashed helmet to determine its' worthiness if you send it to them.
For me personally, when I find one that I like, I like to keep it around for as long as I can...barring any real reason to replace it...:)

I'm in the 2 year crowd. I replace them every 2 years or if I fall and hit my head. No head hit, no foul.
I figure that after 2 full seasons of sweat from my head, it's had enough.

smell that funky helmet, white boy...(https://www.ccsforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clicksmilies.com%2Fs1106%2Fmusik%2Fmusic-smiley-013.gif&hash=81a403fb85e87c8ce2ce24d0037102f2ae8c8b6f)
When the helmet is dropped from waist high or above, the impact is dispersed throughout the helmet to absorb the impact. Once this happens, the helmet must be replaced. If the helmet has not been dropped or involved in an accident, I replace it after two years because your sweat will cause deterioration in the foam as well.
If the helmet touches the ground it gets replaced - unless my helmet provider says otherwise. Couple hundred for a new helmet or an un imaginable hospital bill - my head has already taken enough hits and I don't need to take any chances. I can say my head is worth more then any helmet.
So what you're saying Scotty is that you replace them after every race...

This is what Benny said to me just before we went out for the first practice down at Daytona for the 200 this year.. Next lap I come by and benny is crawling out from underneath the AirFence.....
But Your right Ben - Sometimes it does seem like it's everytime out on the bike - Depends on how often and how much your riding....

Hey, you needed the draft. Oh yeah I destroyed a new helmet on that one.
Whenever I change hairstyles.
I'm serious, I went from L to XXL with the dreads. *Still* haven't found a helmet that fits right. :(
New from Suomy...

Sweet! That just might fit.
I replace mine after 3 years. Never had a problem with my helmet stinking. I replace my street helmet after 3 years also. It sees much more use and sweat than a race helmet (about 600 days and 30,000 miles of use). Never had any problem with it stinking either.
I am not sure I want to know what Alexa does to get her helmet stinky.
every 2 years or every time i crash whichever comes first :ahhh:
3 years is a good limit, but if You drop it replace it.
Unless you drop a helmet from enough height to cause the outer surface to delaminate, there is no reason to replace it. The foam will suffer little/no damage because there is no head inside to crush the foam.
Replace after every MRI or CAT scan, whichever comes first......
Every two years here. Technology changes for the better by then.

It's a secret... :lmao:
Actually, Roger commuting every day to work in the hot sticky summer will make a helmet pretty ripe. Yeah, it must suck when your wife tells you to find another helmet... ;)
somehow i usually do not hit my head when i crash, so i replace helmets every 2 years, and i have some nice helmets to display with my trophys
