What's the best way to mount a transponder
to the bike?

Where is the antenna ? On the track surface or on the side of the track?

Most people just zip tie it on. You can also buy those little puches for the transmitter. Attach those semi-permanently to the bike (behind the rider) and just flop the transmitter in and out as neccessary.
