Are Michelin rain slicks authorized for use in CCS? Or, do they only allow DOT approved tires? I figured I would ask all of you before I bought some. Thanks!
rains are ok to use as long as the race director declares it a wet race. You can use slicks or DOTS in SB/GP spec classes and DOTS in SS classes
So, if I am primarily racing SS classes, I can ONLY use DOTS when the race has been declared wet? Thanks!
you can only use rains if the track is declared wet in any class. once a day is "wet" you can use rain tires the rest of the day.
Slicks can only by used in GP/SB races, DOT's are fine too
No slicks in SS classes.
Is no rain slicks!!!
slick-smooth , rain-groove
rain tires on all classes when is "rain track"
slicks or DOT on GP,GT,SB
only DOT on SS
Thanks for the clarification. There was a web site that I was going to buy the tires from and they referred to it as "rain slicks." Now I know they they were throwing me off with the name. I didn't realize that the Michelin full rain tires were DOT. Thanks fellas!
Juan
rains are not dot approved... they are allowed at the race directors discretion on wet days in place of dots in supersport classes. gt, grand prix and superbike have no tire restrictions :thumb:
Thanks for the clarification! I will go ahead and buy a set just in case. This Florida weather is really unpredictable.
Rain Slicks......Hmmm, this gives me an idea

I do like to get my race tires from the race distribution guys. That will be current inventory, and it will be current product. Sometimes, things change in the contruction and the compounds, and the race distribution guys will have the take off and new versions first. You'll want that relationship.
Dave, do you only purchase from trackside vendors? If not, who do you recommend? Thanks again!
I get mine from Mason Racin Tires.
In Florida, I think it's Frank Kinsey. Both are getting tires from Walt Schaefer Cycle Supply.
I think THIS LINK (http://www.calendarwiz.com/calendars/popup.php?PHPSESSID=702d4a2eb592165cbbcf51631d308742&op=view&id=9130005&crd=bibmen) will help out...
Thanks Dave! That link worked just fine. I will check them out to see what their prices are like.
When people are suggesting that you purchase your tires from tackside vendors it's because of the service, tire knowledge, inventory, ect. you will have privy to. Not because it's the best price on the internet.
Hey, tell Frank that Super Dave said, "Hi!" He's a good man, and his prices are going to be set by the distribution network. Maybe if you were buyin' a bunch you could score a deal, but it's different than getting old stuff.
I haven't used PR2's since 2005 if that gives you an idea of what we thought of them. There's a reason you can get deals on them.
I guess I will learn as I go. I am sure I will be on top of the new stuff once I get into the paddocks at races and chat it it up with everyone.
