Title: Brian Parriott pulls in..
Post by: CounterSteerer on November 02, 2007, 10:47:23 PM
There has been some discussion about some riders that enter a national club event without participating in that series all year. Some people feel they have been robbed of there opportunity from these type of riders. I thought this was a honorable gesture on the part of Brian Parriott at the ROC this year. I got to thank him after the race and he was enthusiastic about allowing the other riders an opportunity to earn a top spot. I thought it was worth mentioning. So , Thanks Brian.

I read about that on RRW also, thats a class act for sure..It just doesnt seem fair when guys running top 5 in the ama showup with there 18 wheeler and whip everyone for the money and trophy..maybe some need to take note of what Parriott did and use him as an example..

The "National Champion" title being based entirely on one race has never seemed right to me.  Rather than hope that the pro ringer running a one-off race pulls out at the last lap, maybe they shouldn't be eligible for the national champion title even if they win the race.

Maybe implement a rule so that only the regional champions are eligible to win the national title.  If you want more possible winners than that, open it up to top 3 per region, or people within X number of points of their regional winner etc.

I applaud what Parriot did, I just don't think he should have had to.  He showed up, gridded up, and could have won the race.  I say, let him win the race, but not the championship title.

Thoughts?

Maybe make it like WERA, you have to qualify to be invited to the run offs. Limiting it to top 3 finishers in the region is a little strict, too many people race with dif. orgs or dif. regions to put that limitation on. But like I said, I think WERA only invites the top 15 or 20 from each region/class. While it isnt hard to get that many points it does keep the Doug Polens from showing up.

I'm not saying only top 3 can show up and race, just that only those riders would be eligible for the national title.  Doug Polen could win the race, but the top "championship eligible" finisher would take the championship title.

Hell, then it might as well be called nascar.  While you are at it throw a
luck dog rule in there too.  Winner of the race should be champ.  Not saying
I agree with one off people showing up to collect the cash but what if your
guy finishes 6th then he would be champ.  Gotta be a better way.

the rule was in 2005 ,maybe other years before, since 2006 there is no rules.  it was ---- to be able to race in the ROC you must race at least 5 races in that class for the year.

How about giving the top ranked riders from each region pre-race points based on their current points in their home region? In other words, if you are in first in the AM GTU MW region, then you have ten points prerace in the ROC AM GTU. Same as the Florida region AM GTU points leader.

NASCAR is exactly what this organization will turn into if we allow Moto-ST to push us around.  I can invision Kevin selling to the France family, and having them screw it all up.
