I love race tracks. I am blessed to have 4 motorcycle tracks in my region all with there own unique characteristics. I would hate to have to race on tracks that are all very similar to each other. I am sorry everyone hates Daytona. I have always enjoyed Daytona (except for the co$t). One thing I observe when I race at other tracks is the fast guys will always be fast. This is no different at Daytona, all the top names were in there usual place, in the front. If you are complaining about horsepower welcome to racing, the guy who has the most money will have the most horsepower, this goes for every track and every type of racing. I got beat by guys this weekend who I know I should have beat. However, it was not because I thought there bikes where faster but because I made mistakes and didn't get it right when I was on the track. The guys who beat me did get it right and are fast riders with the right set up. Getting beat knowing I could have finished better motivates me to improve myself next time. I not going to bash the track or complain that someone's bike is faster then mine. If I want a faster bike I will build a faster bike. I have gotten beat from guys on 125cc bikes at Jennings GP (Steve Wenner!) but never here anyone complain the track sucks because it is geared toward small light weight GP bikes that can hold it wide open for half the track. In the GST class in Moto St the Touring Sport Ducati team ran 1:59s with a bike that makes less than 90HP and weighs more than 390lbs on D.O.Ts. In the SST class guys with under 118HP and bikes that weigh over 400lbs were running 1:55s on D.O.T.s. CCS makes rules for the classes we race in I suggest you read them, build a fast bike and stop whining. Thanks to CCS and every one at Daytona for another fun event. Next year please schedule the races on the days in does not rain. THANK YOU FOR THE AIR FENCES!!!! (John Ulrich I think)
 Finally someone who doesnt wine about having to race at one of the most historic tracks in the world. Guys come from all over the world to race at Daytona. Some like Dario Marchetti keep coming back again and again to race there.

LOL...Actually jason I agree with just about everything you said. My post did come across as a bit whiny and some of it was a little tounge in cheek. THe man who comes to the track the most prepared wins. Equipment is part of it. I can afford to build a fast bike....
The jennings comparison doesn't hold water. Track records have been held on both 600's and 1000's and Ive even seen a stock 600 win the shootout.
Ya, Patrick Jacobson on his 125cc at road america got a 1:28 i believe.... Those damn cheaters on those big motor cheater bikes.... Wait, a 1:26 would qualify you for AMA superstock 1000cc class.... So, maybe it is not all about hp, maybe it helps to be able to ride a bike..... Fast riders, are fast riders.
I liked Daytona, Im proud to have been able to be a part of its history.

holy crap. Nobody was talking about road america. Your preaching to the choir. I won 6 races in one day one a stock 600 a couple weeks ago. I didn't say people shouldn't have fast bikes....I SAID that particular layout of daytona was a bit much.

Well said Dustin :)
Just to let people know D-Wire (Shaun) is no whiner and he is faster then you.
Also dont try to defend everything you say here it will just wear you out. Get ready to get flamed on. I just wanted people to know I like Daytona.
Also Wenner on his 250cc is doing the same lap times at Jennings GP you guys are doing in the shootout (seriously).
:pop:
you are all correct daytona is a great track. however going twice a year at inflated costs over every other track we ride is a bit much. for us to have come down and run 1 practice day and 4 races would have cost me over $3000. to me that is a bit much. yes i could cut some costs... leave the trailer at home, run old tires, tent camp, pb and j's for every meal, now that would have made for the true racing experience right? i am very happy to say that i got to ride on the famous daytona motor speedway, now i can cross that off my list of things i want to do before i die.
my gripe is that we go there 2 times a year and the inflated costs with doing so. price it like every other track and lets go. i understand that some tracks charge more for rental and so on and so on ... why not cover the difference across the year? lets try to make daytona more affordable. if every race entry was raised by probably only a dollar or 2 then tracks like daytona and barber could be raced for basically the same as summit point or vir with out hurting the profit margins involved.
dont try to tell me that the margins are so small that it cant be done either i will call bs in a hurry. ccs might not turn a profit at every track or race weekend ( ex. summit shenandoah ) but at the end of the year there is a profit being made or ccs would not be here. i'm sure that kevin isnt getting rich off those profits but there had to be some motivation to making an $800,000 ( or what ever he paid clear channel for ccs ) purchase. i'm sure it wasnt just because he likes racing.

would cost more than a buck or 2 per race I imagine... and not everyone goes to daytona. The items you mention in shaving cost are exactly the sacrafices YOU should make if YOU choose to race there and make it more affordable. Of all the liscensed racers in the organization what percentage attend either or both rounds at daytona?
Too damn far for me to do every year... someday I'll make the trek, just like you, to say I did it.
i left my trailer at home, road on used tires, didnt eat very well, even mixed race fuel with pump gas to get a couple more ponies out of the bike..theres nobody here that has raced cheaper than me for this season and daytona still about killed me, but thats life and a chose to race there fo sho..daytona would probably be ok if they would stick with the ama configuration, means just one banking, i believe that would help alot..
I like Daytona, i thank my lucky stars i have a few track right in my backyard and am super thankful we have CCS to put on these events. thank you thank you thank you. I wish racing were not so expensive, and i wish crashing my brains out from time to time did not hurt so much but these things come with the sport we love.
Everyone should have the oportunity to hold a Gsxr1000 wide open around the banking at least for a few laps in their lifetime. It is friggin intense (and i know im no pussy cause my data aquisition shows i had it pinned around 3-4 and to the stripe. Going from the 600 to the 1k there is an experience i am already looking forward to for March.
I had so much fun i shat myself!!

Leading GTU briefly, my new superbike motor is FAST..hung with the Team Stargel bike on the banking (at least in the draft) but the rider is a "bit" better than me. Dwire is right there too but was on a back up bike .

Details.... I was close, within a minute or so. Just trying to make a point about tiny little bikes being really fast on HP tracks...
Carry on.
Hi,Dustin ,compare weight/HP ratio, little bike ,less weight ,less HP
on the end you will see is the same,You are experience racer You should know :spank:

I wouldnt believe a 125 could do those times with any size rider... Those are great times on a bike with what, 40hp? That track has 3 very long, high speed straights. 1000's usually do very well there, comparable to Daytona.....
Daytona, 1981 or 2, Kevin Schwantz borrows a friends stock FJ 600, the Yoshimura boys put a set of tires on it for him.
After the start, he was going through the Dog Leg when everybody else is going through the East Horseshoe.
By the time Schwantz reached the Trioval, the front pack of 6 was on him, every lap they would catch him at the Trioval, horse power helped catch up, but not on the final lap.
My friend got to keep the tires.
That's one of those Kevin Schwantz stories.
One of my favorite racetracks.
Fear the Dog Leg.

U-da-man Wenner!
Racing, historically speaking has been a "Rich Man's" sport. I am just glad I can compete with some budgets far exceeding mine. I know that Daytona is more expensive than most other tracks but that is part of the "game". If it takes putting a lot of money into a bike, and tire warmers, and rain tires, and, and, and...then that's what it takes. My guess is that guy or girl feels that it a must win for them. Me, I say bring it on, run what you brung. I only bring my low budget effort.
Mark
Guess we'll see what happens with the collarbone.Their gonna give it 6 weeks and see what it does.To bad we weren't up at Daytona to watch you take you're boots off Jason
Jason,
You were fast as stink baby. The rain just added to our fun.
And just how much horsepower did you buy?
That was quite a tumble you took in the kink. Glad you're ok. Get that bike back together. I'll see ya at Homestead.

Actually I did do it because I love racing. We lost nearly six figures last season, adjusted prices to meet HUGE increases in insurance and other costs that were unforeseeable under CCE. (New companies don't get credit for years of premiums paid, only high rates for potential risk.)
I could make more money driving a truck, Nancy could make more by going back to work at the hospital, but I love racing so I've forced/cajoled/begged her to stay with me and try to make this work. Projections for this season, based on last years loss, have us on track to actually break even, leaving us the existing debit from last year but allowing us to continue on.
So, we go forth into 2008 trying to gain sponsorship, rider base, entries, etc., to allow us to pay down the debt and continue supporting the sport I love.
Thanks to everyone that supports ASRA and CCS!

Next year you should start a non profit racing organization so everything is free to the riders. Oh, and offer huge purses for the top 10 finishers and free Polar Cups. What ever happened to Polar Cups, I do miss them.
