Title: What race plastics to use?
Post by: gntbldr on October 03, 2007, 09:10:54 PM
I currently have God Father Race plastics on my bike. Not too pleased with them but they did the job.

Just wondering which skins would be my best investment.

Catalyst Racing Composites or Armour Bodies are good and Lithium Motorsports is the cheapest place to buy from. Give Rob a call at 1-800-894-7190.
I know how you feel about Godfather I have used them in the past. It seem everytime the bike went down I had to rebuild them. For the price I was ok with that but when their prices went up I expected more. This year I used a better set (out of bussiness now) and only had to make minor repairs. It was nice to lowslide the bike and be able to pick it backup and go.

I'll second the Armour Bodies.  I've used the same set on my SV650 since 2003.  I just ordered two sets for the 2008 CBR600RR that I don't even have yet.

I'm using some ebay specials...well, ebay seconds.  They are pretty good for the money.  I dropped $300 for two sets shipped.

But I have always had the best luck with Sharkskinz.

In the past I have used:  Armor Bodies, Hotbodies, Rennsport, Godfather, Air Tech, Sharkskinz, Morse, Beasley and others.

I've been very happy with Sharkskinz also. They crash well and are easily repaired. Not that I would know this. :banghead:

Yeah, it would make your life easier, wouldn't it.

HEY, only one of those tanks are my fault! The other one came that way.

From what I've run in the past, I'd go with Armorbodies over Sharkskinz, but only just, either one is quality product.

sharkskinz is good stuff, i've used that stuff for a while.

recently I tried armour bodies and they are hands down just great. Fit is perfect too!
They use a special epoxy, the same stuff that kayaks are made of. So its super flexlible yet durable and very scratch resistant. Also if you get the ignature series, its got carbon kevlar re-inforcements.

Call them direct and ask for Billy Solmes or Barry and tell them I sent you. 1-877-944-8244. i promise you'll get a good deal if you tell them you are a racer and ask for a "sponsorship", you'll get an great deal!

I've had several sets of Sharkskinz and have been very happy with them.  Definitely more expensive than everything else though, I'd be willing to try ABs or something else next time.

Well, I've only run the Godfather plastics I have on it besides stock pieces.

I do have a lower, upper and two sets of rear's from Red who used to be Blake Young's mechanic before he went ama.

was thinking of hodge podging plastics together for next season and also trying out some AB if and when the time is right if that comes together on it's own

otherwise I'll be trying out the shark skinz for f%$*s sake

I've had a highside and a low side both at T6 at BFR and the skins took a little beating. not too bad that ties and tape couldn't remedie it all but I want to grab my bike and not have it feel like a fragile POS ifn you ask me.

and that's how it feels with the godfather stuff on it.

no resilience, firmness, or character by any means. I want some skins that have me feel  like I'm putting something more on my bike than paper mache' with some epoxy added to it,.

That's everyone for your input thus far!

For the money and excellent support/customer service, your money is best spend on Hotbodies, especially if you have a shot at the Contingency they offer.  I haven't crashed on my set yet, so I can't say for sure how they hold up.  They did take a little extra effort to mount than my skinz or GP stuff did in the past.  I know guys who've crashed 5 times and easily repaired them.  I've also heard stories of guys crashing once and the set was trashed.

No doubt in my mind, Sharkskinz are the best.  However, they are a little too proud of their product.  You can buy two sets of almost everything else for one set of skinz.  If you do the repair/painting yourself, I'd spend the extra money on the skinz, since they also pay contingency.  But, if you pay someone else to do it, I think your money ahead to just buy two sets of Hotbodies.

Let us know what you decided and why....

I'm stuck on Sharkskinz.  You get what you pay for.  I had a couple of sets of Hotbodies.  They mounted badly and took a horrible beating when I crashed.  The Sharkskinz mount right up and have faired very well in the crash test area.  They offer sponsorship as well as contingency.

my vote is sharkskinz, they take very little prep for paint

i just recieved a set of e-racings bodywork for my 07 r1 and i'm very impressed
$375 delivered
more flexible than hotbodies or cheetah

i've never used armor bodies or sharkskins, so i can't say how well it stacks up to those
but i have a hard time justifying the decision to spend big $$$ on race glass
they may hold up better in some instances, but if you equate expensive bodywork with crash-proof bodywork, you're in for a rude surprise at some point....

Attack Performance Racebodies.  Not the cheapest- but they are always a pleasure to deal with and the body work is top notch- like the rest of their stuff. I am very happy with it.
