I don't see anywhere in the rule books that case covers are required for the 929, or any cbr for that matter. True?
I raced a cbr 900 my first weekend - I was told I didn't need them, b/c Honda doesn't skimp as much on the side cover as other manufacturers.

It's mostly the Yamahas that require them, none of the CBR's do, as of right now anyway.
Nope. Honda's are good from the factory :-)

I think all the newer GXSR's need them also ;)
All the factory style covers are cheap junk. The reason they aren't required right now for the Honda? There really hasn't been allot of the Honda product in the club level for quite awhile in large numbers. That will change real soon, people will crash them, they will spill oil and the rules will change.
More importantly, when or if you might fall down, how much damage do you want to suffer to your equipment? In 99' on an R6, I lowsided and destroyed the stator and rotor on the left side. I don't care who made those parts, they would have ground through with the distance that I slid. Needless to say that ended the weekend for me.
I immediately purchased the Factory Billet covers for sake that at the time they were only a little more expensive. I kept that bike for one more season and the guy who bought it from me used it for another season. So, I say to you, get the covers. They can be so expensive but they also can save a whole weekend of entrees and buying parts (inside those case covers) that surely aren't cheap!

Oh, I'm definitely going to get some. But I'm seriously considering running my first race at VIR just to get my provisional over and done with. I don't quite know that I'll have the money for the case covers yet since I'm purchasing SOOOO many things to get the bike race ready.
I appreciate the info guys :)
See rules and regulations forum, under "Rulebook is Guide, use brain" for more oil and coolant on the track prevention techniques known as common sense. Good answer, bam55! U should save that for future questions that skimp on safety and responsibility.
Clay, I'm not picking on you personally, just asking you to guide yourself responsibly and think beyond a rulebook. :D :D :D :D :D
