Post by: funsizeracing on August 08, 2007, 11:25:03 AM
Anyone know who makes those cooling liners you dunk in water?

I know Joe Rocket made one in the past, not sure if they still do..

We have white T-shirts and buckets of water!  Will that work?

I have a vest from Joe Rocket that I got to go with a mesh jacket that you're supposed to submerge in water for a while and it'll keep you cool... supposedly. I've never used it as it's the weight and bulk of a quilted vest liner, and I don't really trust that it'll work. I mean, once the water all evaporates out it seems like it'll work like a quilted vest, which doesn't seem so nice on a super hot day.

Jen - I hear ya, but, you already have covered yourself head to toe in leathers, including boots and gauntlet gloves.  Is a little bit of quilting on the vest is going to make any difference at that point?

On really hot days I have found it helps to soak my back protector and dump some ice-water into my helmet just before we go out on the track.  It was very refeshing to be coming through the carrousel at Road America and have water dripping out of the helmet liner onto the back of my neck...

keep your helmet in a cooler full of ice...lotsa fluids, run through sprinklers naked between races...

I use http://motorpsycle.com/ (http://motorpsycle.com/)

I was really amazed when I first tested this under-suit liner during an endurance race at Jennings a few years back.

I never go on the track without it now.  It makes it a breeze to get your leathers on and off as well.

Forecast is calling for 100 deg both days this weekend.  I'm just trying to think of ways to keep from melting.

My ponytail used to hold water on the back of my neck nicely on hot days, but since I got bored not racing I cut it off.

True that, true. Just paranoid because I'm really sensitive to heat. Good thing I picked a hobby where we run around in leather suits in the middle of summer eh?

I soak a bandana in the cooler and tie it around my neck and soak my helmet liner too.
Besides the psycleskins, I've also seen moisture wicking material shirts covered in piping that in theory should leave more air gaps between you and the suit allowing for more airflow.

It would probably help me tons in hot weather to just cut off my hair, but I just can't do it.

Looks like one source has retired.  I've had 2 long sleeves and 2 short sleeve shirts of this type that have saved me alot of discomfort over the years.  Need to shop for some more!

I've used these in the past, don't work as well as the psycleskins in my opinion

I used to have one of those quilted beanie thingies that went inside the helmet and worked very well.

I remember seeing a liner on someone that had cooling TUBES that circulated water through them but don't remember where.

Here's an idea.

Use that tubed liner with a water cooling system pump and radiator for a computer.

Check these pages,

Pump.

Radiator

That just might be the ticket...

I have a vest that you dunk in water and it turns to ice for about 45min. it was made by coolrunning race gear. I used it a couple times, if anyone is interested $150.  I know I paid over $250 for it when it was new.

How about this;
Get the motorcycle kit below,
http://www.coolshirt.net/motorcycle-cool-bag.html

take it out of the bag and put it in a backpack. and strap it on.
If the 6 qt. lasts 2 hrs. 3 qts. should last long enough for a session.
