Looking for advice/opinions. I won the Great Plains (LW) Formula 40 championship this year. (My friends) say I have to (sack up) and run (MW) next year. (I've been told) If I was just running (LW)F40 that would be fine, but I race other classes and get my butt kicked at the (Expert) level. I'm not chasing pionts next year and this was my (7th) year of racing. I still make lots of mistakes and have no ambition to go very much faster. :o. What do you think? Flame away, I can take it. Later, Kevin
Oh, and I'm 46.
Have you ever thought about trying Vintage MX racing?

That thread is on the MX site. :)
I can't believe I ask for that. Good times, though. :kissy:

Nice friends. I'd like to see more guys "sack up" and help me chase down 'ol Ed Key in the LW classes.
Who's with me? Fat dude needs a drafting partner...
I'm glad you asked this question... I'm having the same dichotomy.
What's the matter, are you afraid that the other thread is going to dethrone the original?

Paul, Dave, Dean.....I really need a Buell. No?
The last time I tried to chase down Ed, I ended up on my head.

Missed Gateway. I was working the Tooele round of the Supermoto series. Missed Road America for the Detroit round. ect..... Been to Heartland Park and Hastings.
Kevin - nothing wrong with LW white plate class in the MW region. Some darn good racing and a fair share of very fast guys.

Paul,
As another fat guy (weighing in at 200 lbs) I can guarantee if you guys slow down I'd be happy to be your drafting partner. I try but unfortunately, right now I just can't keep up... Really, when I put my head down and comitted to try and run your pace I ended up sliding through T-4 on my head and hitting the wall.
Maybe next year. My f'n piece of italian cr@p is back getting re-built again. I've had nothing but bad luck since the last race of last year. I almost feel that if I'm going to have so many mechanical issues I might as well just buy a buell - at least it would be expected!
Maybe next year I can keep up.
George

I throw a WICKED draft yo... I may "sack down" and run some LW stuff in the future. Had a ball on an SV at GIR. once I bury this R6 expect to see me at least in a class or 2 in the LW ranks.
And then you could step even farther down and do a NESBA track day. Or is that a step up? :spank:
depends on who ya ask...
maybe I'll practice for 4 years and come back and TOTALLY dominate! How loong do I have to take off from racing to come back as an AM???

I know all about those MW LW guys. I get whooped up on every time I go to Blackhawk. :wah:
But what do you expect. You guys have like 18 or 20 rounds there each season? :ahhh:

As slow as you are? You could petetion now with no problem. :kicknuts:
sweet! you got a template or a form letter I can use? I imagine you got that petition shit down yo!!! :spank:
better yet I'll come back on a Buell, I should be able to race for just about free!
now if I can only find a way to actually finish in the top 3 in AM LW classes
You should be able to write a good one by using the information in this wothless thread: http://www.ccsforum.com/index.php/topic,737.0.html

I was wondering how long it would take...
Hmmm.... I'm contemplating LW now too!
I like MW better, but I think mostly just because there are more bikes. Overall, I enjoyed riding the SV more, but that may be subject to change if I get the R6 sorted. I'm not sure you can go wrong either way. Of course, the scenery isn't as good in MW.
BTW, does anyone know how Ben is doing with the national races?
Ben as in me?
If so, I really havent run any national stuff this year, the nationals are a bit weak actually. Only been runnning WERA regional, but we have the 3 fastest guys in the country in our region so it might as well be. Cycle Jam just passed and it was a trip, there were 30 bikes on the grids, which is obviously a ton for LW. We got a 2nd and a 3rd, in the race that I came in 3rd all three of us crossed the finish line within .5 seconds so that was pretty cool especially if you have ever seen T12 at road atlanta with 3 wide at the stripe. We are leading all of our classes right now and it looks like we will keep that lead going into the GNF which means I will be on the front row. Im in the middle of building our true superbike motor for the second half of the year and I am pretty excited at our chances to win a national title but it will be really hard. Were running against a very well sorted DUC 1000 with a rider just as talented as I am and with more experience as well as another talented rider on a blisteringly fast desleeved 748rs. So we have our work cut out but I personally am eager to get back to Road Atlanta.
and if you werent refering to this Ben, then to bad, now you know what im doing to.

now she knows why I stayed behind her so long at Heartland park

Yep, you. Sounds like a lot of fun. I can't keep all the different orgs and the races straight. Is the GNF the amateur nationals? Is it at RA?
Its my secret weapon, I'm going to transform the bottom half of my leathers into chaps.
Ben, sounds likle you're doing well, keep it up! :thumb:

In WERA the grand national finals (held at road atlanta) are the winner take all national championship races, for both experts and amatuers. You run the regional races to earn your grid spot at the GNF, then its just runoffs for the national title. WERA does run a national series that basically the premier non pro series its just pretty weak as far the lw goes. at cycle jam we ran the regional races on saturday and the national races on sunday. the guy who won the national lw races came in like 9th or 10th in saturdays regionals.
