BTW - thanks for the suggestions regarding the solo challenge a couple weeks back. I entered the one at RA and it was awesome. I am amazed that you and the winnner only went down one lap, way to go!!
I got 6th on my (stock) '98 750, with one pit at 22 laps. :thumb:
That is insane now way would I race on a board track with a cow strapped to my head.

I didn't get a hydration system. I drank about 16-20 ounces of "gatorade" at my one pit and drank a bunch of water the evening and morning before. I have generally always been pretty good about not "needing" water, growing up and playing sports in the hot humid summers of DC built a good tolerance. Even w/o the hydration system my thirst never was apparent.
Also though - I did conditioning, several 1-hour long stationairy bike rides (with out water during), plus I run regularly -this was probably the biggest factor.
I had a crew that did a great job and they even joked at how "
every lap was a 2:44", it was
consistent, albeit slow...
I ran 'til the fuel light went solid from a full tank at the start. The pit crew cleaned the visor, though bugs weren't an issue.
I had a
blast and look forward to another Solo!
And as for bike reliability - my ole suzook's got about 13k on it.
Also used a single rear (that had ridden one of the nesba trakdays prior and did two HWSS after... time for a new one now!)

Board track racing was pretty harsh, as I understand. Large splinters would get kicked up through rider's appendages, huge crashes (no brakes), but it was a way of life for some.
It looks as if it was a big spectator sport in those days... Took lots of manhours and funds to build that track. I wonder if there were issues with it colapsing or a big hole opening up and causes someone to crash or fall in. Did they run cars on it?
I think there was betting. I have the book "American Racer" at home, and it details board track racing.
that was cool! I liked the draft technic they where doing, could have used some HD and audio though.
