Post by: chaplain220 on June 25, 2007, 07:24:14 AM
:err:40+ bikes??  In one day at VIR!!!! That's what my sources tell me, (my source is Ex #751, who counted for at least 2 of those! )  Any multiple bike crashes or mostly turn 7, 1 and rollercoaster?  I hope all are doin well, hopefully no hospital visits, and I will be checking e-bay cause I have a feeling all the parts I want will now be available! ::)  See ya at Summit Pt.  Art

During the GTO on Saturday, the fence line on the outside of 1 looked like a motorcycle bone yard. There were 4-5 bikes all lined up against the fence. It wasn't just t-1 though. It seemed like I saw a clowd of dust somewhere on the track every single lap.
Crazy day.

Not sure about the 40 bike number but the one I am sure of and that was there were no transports.

I know there are a few riders that owe a big thanks to John Ulrich and the RRW Action Fund. Remember that this fund came about from the riders and that its continued expansion and dangerous area coverage happens because of donations to the fund.

Thank you to the racers that helped set up on Friday and who helped tear down on Sunday.

At the riders meeting Sunday morning, Art said there were 42 bikes removed from the track on Saturday. I believe he said he got that number from the guys driving the crash truck. Those dudes were busy.

Yup.... I was one of them.  My Duc got a little beat up(AM # 297).  Lap # 3 in the GTO race, turn 1.  I have no idea how I lowsided.  I was not on the brakes, in the front pack with the Amatuers, next thing I know is I hear that awful sound of plastic on tarmac and then I slid for a bit.  My first time going down.  Glad I did not take anyone with me.

Does anyone know the photographer(s) that was on turn 1 most of the races?  I gotta see if he has a pic of my slide.

I saw you go down as well.  Didn't really see exactly what happened, just looked over and you were sliding

Brickman, sorry ya got hurt, do ya think you'll be able to make Summit? I still have a grudge match to settle with ya from our last go round where ya spanked me at the finish line.  Glad to hear there were no transports, and if Wendy was there taking pics, she does an awesome job and probably has the whole sequence.  Makes it a little more worth it.  Hey Jaymags, welcome to the T1 crash club :thumb: hope the bike aint too bad.

I do not think my foot will be up to the task at hand on 7/7/07 but I will be there in Sep. I was lucky I guess he could have clipped my front brake and you know the rest

I find that hard to believe. I worked on turn 4 Sat./Sunday. I account for only about 4 on Sunday. Maybe 1or 2 Saturday. But 40 in one day for the whole course. Like I said that is stretching it. Turn 3 had a space shuttle like blow up. I think the rider was ok. He sure got jetisoned of his/her ride. 1 duc. died in the middle of the track between 3 and 4. Scared the crap out of me as I ran down to help out. I watched 10 or more bikes weave past the debris field. There were feathers all over the place. :ahhh:  That rider was fine thank god. Everyone else had their share throughout the days. I don't think anyone had anything really major injury wise this weekend.

Maybe one or more bikes were leaking fluid in small amounts and nobody noticed it, cause that's a lot crashes!

They haven't had rain down there in a long time, and there's a TON of rubber on that track. The track was good in the cool of the morning, but after lunch that rubber on the track got really snotty. It clearly caught a lot of people off guard.

I hadn't been to VIR in a year before this weekend, but the exit of turn 1 (or I think it is actually turn 2) seemed kinda slippery to me.  I never realized that the rubber could cause that since I always thought rubber made the traction better but I guess it could become too much of a good thing.

The rubber can get kinda greasy if it gets pretty hot.  The other thing to remember about the exit of 1 and 2 is that there is a seam running with the track there.  If you get your rear tire on that seam it will make you spin the rear, and feels like the bike is doing all kinds of bad stuff.
