Okay, maybe it wasn't an F-5, but as the bikes were just coming in off the track and we were clamping the easy up to the 4 bikes it sheltered underneath, I heard a couple guys yelling, "here it comes!" I looked down the paddock and a wall of dust, tarps and debris was ripping through the infield headed right for us. :err: I think I even saw a couple corner workers floating around, (pointing the debris flags at themselves!) When it hit, it took 3 of us to hold on, the canvas buckled, couple straps came loose, bike was blown over, (fortunately it landed on my buddy's bike 8), and it was quite a ride! And then it just stopped as quick as it hit. I stepped out from underneath and it was eerily quiet, I thought we were the only survivors, but soon soaked racers, began to emerge from the skeletons of shredded awnings and easy ups. Everyone make it okay? As chaplain, I can only assume this was judgment brought upon the bikes that bear the mark of the smiley faces, and the rest of us just got in the way. It was good to be back on the track, See ya at Roebling, Art.
Today I saw the pics in Road Racing World and was glad I left after the F40 race. Rember that bit about snake handling? well I cleaned up my bike today and as I was dumping out the lower I saw a snake in my backyard. It looked poisons so I caught it and placed it in a bucket called animal control and they took it someplace safe. Strange dont you think? Nice to meet you and race with you Preacher man
It was unbelievable!! It even blew the porta-john over in the carousel. Thankfully no one was in it at the time...yuk!!
take a look at the last pic in the thread I started called FREE - Summit Point Pics. It's from the prospective of our tent...
I was heading into T-1 on a pit bike and got slapped in the face by sand, wind and rain. Could not see anything and than lightning, was scared to put my feet down and had to turn the bike around with out putting a foot down. Grass was all wet and bumpy, people in the truck in T-1 must have been laughing a good one watching that debacle.

I was heading out of the woods from T5 and got sand blasted. I closed my eyes and kept riding hoping I wouldn't hit anything!
i was in the supertwins race on sunday. when we were gridded up i saw lighting over turn 1. during the race i was going down the front straight and i could've sworn i saw lightning touch down in the paddock. it obviously didn't but i guess it was really close.

I was wondering how you made out! We grabbed a whole bunch of stuff and jumped in the car to try to catch you to offer you a ride but I guess you took a different path or were long gone by then! Now you REALLY have an insight on the day in the life of a corner worker :):)

lol, you guys do a great job! I couldn't imagine doing what you do all day. It should be required for every racer to spend a few sessions with you guys in a corner to see just what it's like, I can say I have a completely different perspective now.
Not to mention you guys made me a head case every time I headed down the shoot into T5. I was thinking "I wonder what they're saying about me now..." :blahblah:
I was working pick up in turn 10. I could see the storm coming down pit row. I turned tail and headed for the car. When I got back to the camp sight, my tent had blown away. At least now I know that my poly filled sleeping bag will keep you warm even when it's wet.
LOL ... we have to find some way to keep ourselves entertained right? Plus, after a couple days of that heat and activity, I think sometimes we find ourselves way more funnier than we actually are, and not everyone can appreciate our sense of humor :)
Though, the HHB has got to be a classic :lmao:
Don't worry, we didn't have TOO much to say about you out there ! Again, we did see that shake in your frontend coming into 5, which was odd because you were real smooth through 6 and 7.
After watching you guys all day, we can very often even tell when you guys are getting tired...that gets scary :ahhh:, but we also see each racer improve lap by lap (or at least most racers) :)
See you next time at Summit :):)

You were working 5? I'm the idiot who through away the lead by crashing in the mud right in front of you (AM#277). I got up, ran back and picked the bike up, and it wouldn't start. I threw a full on tempur tantrum and you were trying to calm me down. I did get a third two races later. :)
Thanks, by the way, for calming me down and for giving my transponder to my buddy.

yeah, I've had some nasty front end chatter when hard on the brake's for a few weeks now. I just can't seem to get it dialed out. The front is smooth as silk everywhere else though. I'm gonna have CTR look at it in two weeks. See ya out there!!!!

LOL Yep, that was me :):). Believe me, your reaction was quite standard :):) I just knew from experience that your bike would probably fire right back up if you gave it a couple seconds to "recouperate" :)
Before I gave your buddy the transponder, I told him "I have to make sure you really are with his crew...how would he react after he dumped it??" He was exactly right :):). Although, as I said before, it's a quite standard reaction :) Just glad you weren't hurt :)

Can you give me a little detail about the crash? I know how it happened, I'm just wondering how fast I was going when I left the track? How far off the track did I go before I actually went down? Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.
PM Sent :)
Tell us how he fell off.
How can I put salt in the wound if I have no ammo.
Came through 4, set up for 5, had no brakes, ran off, hit mud, fall down go boom. At least I didn't get my ass run over. :thumb:
You folks weren't alone. :ahhh:

Was there anyone wearing ruby slippers, carrying a basket with a dog in it?
Yep, this is what happened to my tent!
BTY that is my bike, and that grey thing next to the van is my tent,
:lmao:
i stuffed that tent under that van, after checking to see if there was anybody in there, ( it was heavy)
i figured you could find it later, (it was rolling down pit road)
