Title: Chicago Peeps - Need Hotel Advice
Post by: tigerblade on May 08, 2007, 12:00:37 PM
We're going to be in Chicago early next month.  My wife has a friend flying into O'Hare and we need cheap (but safe and not too smelly) boarding close to the airport.  Suggestions?

Red Roof Inn Chicago-Arlington Heights (#102)
I-90 at Arlington Heights Road North
22 West Algonquin Road, Arlington Heights, IL, United States, 60005
Phone: (847) 228-6650 Fax: (847)228-6709

Is one option, there are a ton.

Do you plan on picking up your visitor and then enjoying some night life?  If you want to do something downtown a hotel near the train station might be more to your liking.

The hotel above should be relatively inexpensive, close to the Airport, in a decent area with some restaurant / bars close by.

Thanks guys.  Her friend is from London, so we're picking her and her fiance up from the airport and spending the weekend there before coming back to MO.  We've been to Chicago a few times, but I assume her friend hasn't and will want to see a few things.  We'll probably hit the Field Museum, etc.

And of course they'll need to experience true Chicago pizza.     Oh yeah, her friend is a vegetarian :err: but the fiance is Irish  ...

My favorite Chicago Pizza is Lou Malnotti's - pan with broken sausage (important to indicate broken or it will come as one sausage pattie that covers the entire pizza, too much IMO), easy green peppers and easy onion.

If you are looking to stay for the weekend and want to stay in the suburbs (to save on hotel) but visit the city, anything along the train line would be a good plan.  Taking the train downtown really makes it easy and saves on parking costs. Towns along the train line not far from the airport would be Rosemont, Des Plaines, Arlington Heights, Palatine.  Brian's right, Schaumburg is a nice place to stay and just a short drive from the train.

Now if you want to stay downtown and party like a rock star I recommend

The InterContinental
The W
The Hyatt

If you want a recommendation on something you find on the internet just let me know, I'll do my best to give you a good description of the place.

Happy Travels
