Hey all,
I crashed in turn 8 at CMP Friday late afternoon just before the Checker came out. I felt my rear spin up and my steering was to the stop. I felt i could save it by riding it out... well then I woke up in the box on the way to Kershaw Hospital. I was wondering if anyone saw this. Where was I laying? Where was my bike? Was I walking around? There was a report that I hit the inside Rumple, I'm having a hard time with that. I was running a soft compound and it looks like they went away very quickly.
I was really looking forward to racing this weekend... I'm down with 6 broken ribs and a collar bone. Hope everyone has a good weekend. I see y'all at Roebling.
Thanks,

Bone healer (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/product_info.php?products_id=803). Get some to shorten your recovery time. Works well, and it's pretty inexpensive.
Sorry to hear about this, hope the healing goes well
Glad your gonna be ok. It was along day Friday, and Sat wasn't working much better.
Luckily we had a bunch of rain mess with us there today, but thigs smoothed out some.
You are one of many that track too this weekend.
Get better soon!
Oh and I would blame it on the Sand or that wire brush they buff the track with to make it extra slippery.
REM6a - You're too funny, unfortunately my RIBS aren't as happy to be laughing. I have to blame it on me for not changing my rear tire. I let it get way too worn down. The soft compound seemed to go from not so good to very bad in just a few laps. As I get faster, and more confident with the bike moving around, I begin to stretch things. I was going to change my tires at lunch on Friday, but because of all the Red Flags and missed sessions, I decided to change them after the track day for the race weekend. I think I'll break this habit now since I never made race day this time. This was totally my fault this time. It's a learning experience.
I really would like to know what happened from the impact to the ambulance ride. That's very strange. I don't remember my helmet or leathers being removed. Which reminds me.... I'm going to need more of those.
Thanks for your response,
Philip
Doc says I get to pick out a new clavicle... Mine just wont do. Can I get one made out of bendy stuff?
I am going through the same thing right now. Crappy thing about a collarbone. It seems to take forever to heal. When are you getting plated? I am getting mine April 26th and will be out of commission till the end of June. Good Luck man. My buddy said it was a pretty bad crash. Were you the one airlifted?
I was the last ride in the ambulance of the day (Friday) in the Expert group. I guess no one saw it. I'll be going in for surgery on May 2nd. The doctor doesn't want to touch it right now until the skin heals. I guess he needs a nicer canvas to work from. Good luck with yours. I hate that we'll both be out for the next few months. VIR is calling me for June, but I think it still may be a bit early.
Philip, sorry I missed ya bro, I went to the hospital but could not locate you. I met up with Mike who broke his pelvis,(somethin like a year recovery time), and Sean with the compound fracture to the collar bone, he was in pretty good spirits and came to the track the next day. I was also standing on turn 3 when Bryan went down hard on Saturday and was airlifted to Colombia with a fractured vertebrae. I know what ya mean about the being knocked out thing. I had a similar experience at Daytona and its kinda disorienting, I still hope I didnt say anything stupid while I was out. I hope you heal well and as quickly as possible, I know there will be days when it's just so frustrating trying to sleep, NEVER SNEEZE, or cough, and getting out of cars is a bear. Keep on the forum when ya start feeling like the world is leaving ya behind while you heal. Art.
Art, Thanks for the kind words. The Docs at Kershaw Medical Center had me fixed up to go pretty quick. I think I was back at the track by 6:30pm watching great fully as my buddy and Delk's kind father help pack up my Jeep. I found out that my GPS I've been playing with for the past year finally worked. Here is an overlay of my coordinates with google maps.
It was just as I thought. My back tire started to spin up about the apex and I spun until my bike was perpendicular to the track. There is a little squiggle about halfway between the apex and the cross hairs . This is where my bike actually dropped and slid to the end
(cross hairs).
The little squiggles at the end are from the truck picking my bike up. The rest of the file (not shown) shows the drive with my bike on the truck to the paddock.

does your gps record speed for each of the data points?
Yes, It has its own software that shows MPH, accelerating, braking, cornering g-forces. I haven't had a chance to import it. I uploaded the data for 4/13 at CMP to the web site http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=google (http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=google). This just overlays my coordinates with the google satellite image. Pretty cool though.
Can you tell me more about this program/hardware. What's it called and where did you get it?
It's from a company out of Canada. It's a GPS and antenna that logs data to a bluetooth device that I either have on me or mount on the front inside of my bodywork upper. I worked with it some last year, but had some problems that has since been fixed. It's not yet a simple solution, but I've been trying to make it as plug and play as possible. Due to my injuries, I'll be testing (ease of use) on my buddy's bike at Roebling in June and possibly VIR. Being grounded, will give me some time to work with it. The company is Blackline GPS. They have been real good to work with. Their customer service has been outstanding. It's hard though to have time to concentrate on this type of gadget when your also preparing for races. It's getting easier and I hope to have a good turn key solution soon. Feel free to see me at any of the SE events and I'll be happy to show you how it works. It's really pretty cool once you have the time for it.

Thanks for the info, Phil. I'm going to try and make both Roebling and VIR this year if work and Mama permit.
