Title: Painters?
Post by: Xian_13 on March 14, 2007, 06:31:53 PM
Yeah... well, not sure what seccion to post in...

Anyone know of any cost effective (or down right cheap) painters in the SE Wisconsin or North IL area?
When I say cheap...
I mean like Macco cheap :)
Needs to have turn around time of like a week or so....

Jezz, am I asking for to much?

I am located in Belgium.  My 2 color paint jobs (includes # plates) start at $350.  If you want red and black I have the paint here.  That price is for like new bodywork that doesnt need any prep work.  But I could work out a deal with you.  Feel free to give me a call tonight if you want.  My # is 262-490-9801.  Paitning is how I afford to race so I am always looking to help a fellow racer!!!  Here is a picture of 2 of my most recent paint jobs.

I don't know what their schedule is, and I don't know how much it will cost you.  I just get one color done.  (I dropped of some stuff just recently too.)

Very good people, so be nice.  Todd is the owner, and might be the guy to talk to.  Very good man.

Just a word to the wise;  most painters offer the following services:

Perfect Quality
Instant Turnaround
Super-Cheap Prices

You can choose any two.

I dunno if the place he posted up did the bike he had last year, but it looked like a very nice job for race duty.

Christian, just spray bomb it. All it needs to do is look good from 50' at 50+mph. should cost you $40 max and a weekend of fun.

Steev's Auto Body
529 W. Lunt Ave.
Schaumburg, IL 60198

Ask for Tony and tell him Jason Temme referred you.  These guys have done the last three sets of bodywork and also have done some repair for me as well, very satisfied and the turn around is quick.

More stuff to repair in a crash, more weight eh I'm not going to bother until someone else pays for it!!

No offense, but it's kinda hard to attract someone to pay for it when you don't look like you've got your shit together to begin with.

I'll second that comment Jason...

The more professional you look & act, the more professional you will be treated.

I'm a long way away from where you are Jason and where you were Jeff.  Painting is not a high priority for me right now.  Having a well sorted out bike, body and mind - getting my cornering speed up so that I can be competitive are first.  When/if I start winning races then....

Don't sell yourself short, I had sponsors before I ever turned a wheel on a track.  This sport is so expensive I could have never even started without some help.

You'd be surprised at the type of support you could get just because people want to help or be part of what you are doing.  The right approach at the right time to the right person is all you need.

Talk to everyone you know or meet about:

Where you are.
Where you are going.
and
How you plan to get there.

If you talk to enough people, you will find what you are looking for.

Don't forget, every little bit helps so be prepared to work with anyone on any level, set up a list of benefits vs. level of support ($$).  Think outside the box - maybe a local web designer will build you a web site in trade for advertising on the bike.

Carry a presentation packet with you all the time or keep one in the car so you have it when you need it.

Feel free to visit my web site (needs an update) and download my resume, it's very close to the printed presentation packet I carry with me.  Hopefully it will spark some ideas for you on how to present your program.

Last but not least - get the bike painted and looking nice!  Then put a big sticker on it that says "Your logo here" (or photoshop it)  now you can give people a visual of what they can expect.

Jason -  Great suggestions.  There's a neighbor with a pseudo paint both - he'll paint if I prep and get him the coatings.  I'm trying to keep costs down so that I can manage them for now.

Sounds like your neighbor just became your best friend

To keep costs down I get the bike painted one color then use vinyl from a sign shop to do accents and striping.  There's also a guy in PA I order graphics, sponsor logos and numbers from, who is super reasonable and does a nice quality job.  I originally found him when searching Yamaha Graphics on EBay

SR Sign Design
rkarcheski@verizon.net

The stripes I have on the side right now you can see here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Valencia-Stripes-R6-R1-YZF_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35593QQitemZ280093605172 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Valencia-Stripes-R6-R1-YZF_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35593QQitemZ280093605172)

I'm sure he could make you up something.

Some water in a spray bottle, a hair dryer and a squeegee and I can just about wrap a basketball in vinyl without creases or air bubbles.

Yellow vinyl is great for number plates as well, and when you go expert - simply peel off and replace with white  :thumb:
