Hi, All!
Thought I'd try posting this here, and see if anyone can help.
Lost my mom to cancer, sucked pretty bad. Decided one day that I should do something, and I decided to develop a program around pediatric cancer. Wanna look at that, you can link to it here (http://www.superdavesrace.com).
Then, my dad passed away from cancer in 2005. Kind of set me back, but I kept moving forward.
Through my school program, I met up with some people from the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and I was happy to jump on board. Last year, we set up a gig with Heartland Park Topeka's help during the ASRA event to race the area coordinator's bike, which was a show bike for the Kansas City Ride For Kids. We were able to set up an honorary pit crew program with a pediatric cancer patient, Noah Sanchez, who was five at the time.
Nice, kid! We hit it off, and I won the GTU Team Challenge event with the help of my novice rider, Tim Hull. We have him the number plate from the bike, donated the purse to the foundation, hats, about anything we could.
I tried to instill an idea into Noah, and all the survivors, that they are number one. I think they are great. They never give up.
Noah and his family have set up a donation site for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation where Noah's going to try and raise some funds. He's decided he wants to raise $681.44...I'm not sure why, but, hey, I'm not here to stop him, I want him to succeed 'cause I told him he was number one.
Anyway, he's stolen my "Super" as he's referring to himself as Super Noah. :D:
Should anyone be inclined to donate to a worthy cause, Noah's site for donations to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation can be accessed here (http://www.firstgiving.com/supernoah).
The foundation is very good about getting you a written confirmation of your donation which should be enough to get you any needed tax deductions.
If anyone can help, that would be great!
that's awesome dave. i've had a minor spot or two removed from me head a few years ago. it sucked bad and wasn't a fraction of as bad as some of those kids have to go through.
count me in.
CHED! - I had two spots on the back also removed 2 yrs ago for caution only- wasnt fun but was a cakewalk compared to their situations - right dave, if they could ride, their tenacity and will, :spank: would have them kicken our arses-I dated a girl whose son spent most of his first 3 years in bed at sloan kettering in NY,I was drawn to help, her husband had left, had some good years with them all and learned who real tough chicks are-
This is a VERY Noble endeavor thanks DAVE -Your efforts on this site have benefitted us all at sometime, i hope its felt that way by many others here, in this time of your need, send me a paypal addy,i'll donate the 1st $25 here- hope this starts something, everybody here has learned something from you! ............... John
What a story, just made my donation. Thanks for letting me know about it. Will he be with you again this year in Topeka?
Noah's going to be bouncing off the walls...LOL!
Thank you, too!
Yeah, we're trying to set it up to have Noah, his family, and some other survivors at the race again. That's coming up quick too!
Well if there is anything that I can do just let me know. If you wanted I would be happy to toss you a few bucks towards a pit bike or such for him. Whats the chance of getting a dealer to give you a really good deal on a small bike? Sure would make for some good publicity for all involved. I even have a friend in Topeka that owns Expert OffRoad, might be able to get him to throw in a few dollars and to maybe put a truck on display or something. Just a thought.
Last year, Heartland Park Topeka moved him, his baby sister, and mom around in VIP style in a golf cart and he was able to watch races from the hospitality area in the big NHRA tower.
Was cool, 'cause I could see him and his family as I was heading into the last corner. I could have wave at him and stuff. They brought him out to the track on the last laps, and we had some nice pictures of him with my teammate Tim Hull and I in the ASRA winners circle.
I know Heartland Park is behind us again to do anything they can. I think we'll have better TV coverage this time.
I know that since the Ride For Kids program is centered around brain tumors, some kids have some physical issues. Noah's right side isn't like it should be, his balance is getting better, and his head is a bit fragile. The pit bike would be cool, but might not be the best opportunity here. Thank you, though!
Just a thought. And completely understand. Will be at Topeka and I will be sure to have a shirt and hat from APP Racing for him.
Sounds like a great plan!
Neat kid, I remember him well!!
another $25 for the cause... I'll spread the word!
Tim
Thanks, Tim!
DAVE -Had a chance to read Noahs story now - thanks for letting us know :thumb:-John
