Holy crap. I went down for the ROC. We were allowed in the gates Thursday morning for practice, raced Fri, Saturday and the camping was good through Sunday. Cost of camping in the RV lot with water/electric hookups on the lake...$185 for the 4 days.
I call today and am blown out of the water. Am I missing somthing here? The cost was $600.00 for March 2 -4. Same location. This Mid Atlantic event is definately OUT of the question!!!
Bikeweek...
And I don't know how you got by with $185 for RV camping because last year in the fall, at the ROC, the stated price was $600 for RV with hookups... That was a big reason I didn't go.
No, it was $185 for camping on Lake Loyd with hookups. I agree with ya, $600 is just assanine.
That 600.00 is for ten day on the lake. They have some for 400.00 on the infeild and for 200.00 outside the gate. You should checkout the campgrounds around there and see what they are charging.($$$)

And this is where I stayed for the ROC and trust me, it was not $600. I have no intentions of staying through March 10th, thats where they are gettin people.
BOHICA( BEND OVER HERE IT COMES AGAIN)
If you're not set on staying at the Track, Daytona Beach Campground is a good place to stay. I've stayed there 3 years in a row and always liked it. Not sure for a weekend but for two weeks it's something like $475, I think.
I've slept in interstate rest stops during events, slept in a waffle house parking lot (well, in a car parked there) once. My point is there's always a way if you really want to go. I know there are plenty of campgrounds west of the speedway, a lot of parking lots too ;) DIS is so ridiculous it hurts... not just with the cost, but the arrogance as well. The staff is a lot better, but they still could use some work.
You go by yourself dontha Cardzilla? Are you expecting your wife to sleep in the car with you? Oh I forgot. :D
That's one of the reasons it sucks for Daytona to be a regional double points race for the MidAtlantic region, it is too expensive. Sort of kills a regional series for us regualr working class dogs.
so can anyone name some campgrounds close to the track?
I really appreciated that they threw us all out after 5:00 PM. I've never seen that at any other track in the nation. I'd blown a motor, so I had to haul my bike out of there and rebuild it somewhere else. (Thank you American Motorcycle Institute!) Just what I needed to add difficulty to a day that was already going from bad to worse. At least Rhiannon loaned me her little trailer so I could leave our rig set up at our site.
Do you think they kick the NASCAR boys out if they have to put in a late night working on the car? I doubt it....

Any woman not willing to suck it up for the sake of her man's racing effort isn't worth having , my gf actually finds a way to make it hospitable... brewing coffee in the morning, etc. I guess that's one of those "changes" that happen when the ring goes on the finger LOL.
I've seen AMA factory superbikes in mini vans leaving the track to be worked on.
I've usually stayed in the movie theater parking lot near Home Depot or across the street in the Best Buy parking lot.
All about perspective, I guess.

LOL! No...
But they have enough paying spectators and big entry fees to pay for the security and insurance costs.

Not at all... the marriage was the miserable part :lmao: And I stand by my statement... I'm sure you know the value of a good woman
But that is my point... my ex was not a team player... and it got worse with that damn ring. It's all about perspective and I've gained that from the current gf. If you think it's miserable camping out then it will be, if you make the best of it you can actually enjoy yourself.
If you still see your ex, thank her for putting you in the position where you had to sell me those PD tire warmers. They've held up wonderfully and still work like new.... :kicknuts:

Sv814,
You are missing the point. At ROC camping was for 4 days. During bikeweek in March camping is for 11 days. Thursday through the following Sunday. They don't care if you are only going to be there for 4 days, you will still have to pay for 11 days.

Nah, I got the point. It's rediculous. Why would they even do that.
camping is soo freaking expensive!
I dont want to stay at the track for 11 days. I know some people that will, but not me. I'm going to stay at a campground down the road.
It could be worse, $2750.00 for Speedweek. I don't see anything in the notes about splitting the spot. I'm sure they're are some people just coming for the AMA that would be happy to takeover your spot and split the cost. CCS camper out and then AMA camper into the same lot. If they say anything just tell them you had to rent a different RV for the AMA event.

Road America used to kick everyone out at 6pm. About 1996 they started letting competitors stay as late as they wanted. Couple years later they started to have camping.
Now that you mention it, I remember dealing with that when my dad raced cars from the 60's to the early 80's.

LOL... yeah, lucky for you I decided to divorce her AFTER I sold all my stuff... 2 years later and I'm still trying to put it all back together.
I spoke with a guy, Money is his name, at Daytona who told me that tent camping in the infield was about 15 dollars a night, no hook ups, no trailers or RV's etc. The showers are numerous so I guess a tent will be my upgrade from the tow mustang.
When all else fails there's always the parking lot at Wal-Mart.
From what I know they have a standing policy of allowing RV's to overnight with no hassles. Unless they have a different policy in Florida than they do in the rest of the country.
Then again if you showup in an RV that looks like K3's there might be a problem. :kissy:

Has anyone inquired as to a difference in price if your a competitor and don't need the 2 'Nextel Fan Zone' tickets that are included with the space rental? It states that extra tickets are available for $175 EACH, so they must represent a substantial portion of the space rental fee, I wonder if they will rent those same spaces without the Nextel Fan Zone tickets?
