Title: Steel Shoe Fund, 3 hour endurance ice race
Post by: grasshopper on December 07, 2006, 10:29:37 AM
Anyone doing this race? I wanted to race last year but it didn't happen. I am aiming to go this year.

Sounds like a fun weekend. Hopefully I'm not so hung over from the banquet so I can ride the next day.

How many riders on your team? Are you doing the short track race on Saturday?

Nah, just Sunday. So far, we will probably have 2 teams, one with a CRF450 and a YZF250. We have 5 guys that are commited to riding, maybe more, depending on a couple of things. We'll see who ends up there. Are you racing it?

Fredette is making me a new 21" ice tire for for the KX now. I'm hoping to get some practice time before the event. He's backed up 2 weeks now. We played pond hockey for about 3 hours yesterday so if it would get cold again and stay cold it's looking pretty good for some good practice time.

Yes Edgar I will be there for sure. I've been wanting to do this race for years now.

I keep asking K3 to get on the ice bike but he refuses. We need to use some kind of bait to get him out there.

The opportunity to perforate or be perforated by Edgar is probably bait enough.  Lookes like Dave Vaughn and I are in on Grasshopper's bike.
Are you guys sure the ice will hold me up?
Hey, uh.... what does one wear for riding gear at an event like this?

Depends on the thickness of the ice, wear warm layered clothing, leathers will do fine if you put something underneath and over the top. A lot of guys wear carharts and such.

Damn K3, if you are going to be out there, we better make sure there is at least 12 inches of ice! I am not sure anything less could hold up all that!  :ass:  :ass:  :ass: Since we have to run ice fenders, I won't feel bad when I come around to lap you and rub against you! We normally don't run ice fenders here, and I have scars on my leg as well as on my bike to show for it.

I normally wear the Winter "Under Armour" like stuff, then a fleece skiing under suit thing, Thick Motocross pants, a fleece shirt and a ski jacket, plus a thick set of gloves, a baclava and moto helmet, goggles and Motocross boots. If it's really cold out, you can use those little warmer things that you can put on the bottom of your boot and inside your golves and it works pretty good. I have been out there with this outfit when it was 15 below and it wasn't bad. Like Alexa mentioned, some of the guys out here wear Carharts and they work well too.
