Title: Transponder/lap timer
Post by: JoeNashville on November 22, 2006, 06:39:23 PM
I want to buy a lap timer and one that is also a transponder would be even better. Is there such thing that would work with CCS races? I'm not sure which type of transponder CCS uses. Trying to keep it simple. Thanks

CCS uses their own system. ABM ones arent compatible (at least MW regions). Plus they are making people mount their transmitters at the back of the bike. If it had a built in lap timer, how would you read it? Mychrons are cheap and reliable. Theres always 1 beacon set up for one. Or you could go look at your times afterwards.

I was looking at a Mychron, but I thought if I could get one CCS compatable I can mount it semi-permantly and not have to worry about each weekend, making sure to return it etc., and mostly one less thing to worry about.  I wouldn't look at while on the track anyway, just afterward for review and analysis...

CCS makes you use theirs.

Best way to NOT forget to turn it in is make a sign that you slide over your car/trucks steering wheel that says "TURN IN TRANSMITTER".

YES, that's what I need.

They usually put one up in the SE region on the way out... it's saved me countless times.

Which you remove and place on the front seat to start your car and don't think about again until you set your quarter pounder w/ fries on top of it at Mickey's drive-through in Beloit while the transponder bllinks away in the back of the trailer because you still forgot to turn it in.  :banghead:

Maybe a tattoo on the back of my hand would work...

Or a huge ass sign at the gate on your way out stating:

HEY.... GOT TRANSPONDER?

I haven't done it yet... But almost more than once.

Do it all the time. You just have to grow up and not forget it but since we are racers we will all still do this from time to time.

Not aware of any lap timers that double as a transponder.

Here's the lap timer I use http://www.cc-2000.com/xtracing/en/ (http://www.cc-2000.com/xtracing/en/)

What would be ideal would be for the transponder company to make a small loop which could be placed at track exit which had a LIGHT that was placed say, 50' up.  If a trailer crossed the line with a transponder in it, the light comes on!

I just don't know how possible that would be with trailers though...

The focus of the AMB stuff would make that hard to do.

That's kinda what I figured.  I'm sure it's the same with the other stuff or it would probably be available.  Would be great if it worked though! LOL.

Great idea, bet one of the electrical gurus that race could come up with something.  All you need is a transponder to trip the circuit, only problem might be the signal strength from inside a trailer.
