Whats everyones opinion on an sv1000 as a racing platform. Are they severly overmatched againts other big twins in racing?
Thanks
No from what I understand they are competetive just ask Tray Batey :thumb: .
Actually, they suck, they really suck, you should hold of fand buy a certain someones sv 650 superbike next winter  brembo brakes, mag wheels, extra motor, mmmmmmm..........
well what am I supposed to do next year? right now I've got two options. I've got an 04 sv 650 already set up for racing in WERA and the guy is about my size so it should be close on set up. Lots of spares including wheels etc. Its a stock motor and has won one or two expert wera regonail titles with the first owner and two regonial titles with the current owner so it should be competitive. He wants $4100. I've also got a 2003 sv1000 that only got 1200 miles on it and was raced in wera last year as well. He took it straight from the showroom floor to the track. I believe he's a little lighter than I am so I'll have to change out springs at least. He's also still got all the street stuff as well. He want's $3800.
I'm leaning more towards the 650 but this thou came up and now I have to think about it a bit. :ahhh:
The 650 would prob. be a better choice for racing as it is competetive in at least 5 classes in CCS and 4 in WERA as The SV 1000 is only competitive in 1 class in CCS and 2 in WERA.If you are a newer rider your lap times will probably be faster on a well set up 650. I have raced them both. Russel Massacar in the Southeast runs both and he is a pretty good expert and is only about 1-2 seconds faster on his 1000.
Mark's father Chris used to build Tray's TLR motors to 140+ H.P. and he rode the wheels off of it, before Chris unfortunately passed... Mark builds the SV motors to 120+ H.P. The SV1000 can be very competitive in the Twins class. You can buy one of these SV's now too :thumb:
Get one of each! :thumb:
Seriously, the 650 sounds like it's been professionally sorted, and would be a better deal all the way around.
thanks for chiming in guys, I'm picking up the 650 up on Saturday. It will be coming to a Trackaddix GP race near you next year :thumb: :boink:
