My right spool was taken off in a crash this weekend. What ways have people fixed this? My thought is to just weld on a nut so you can screw in another spool. Let me know of any tips you have. Thanks
Tip #1- Don't Crash. :kicknuts:
oh but it was like a 70mph slip n slide down the track in turn 1 from the 3 board to the marlbes, I highly recommend it. :boink: :boink:
I could tell you, but the answer comes at a hefty price...
Namely.. that jacket you have.. You know the one..
I am wearing the jacket tonight on the street, we are going to head out to Players Club in Chicago and then to Streets of Woodfield. I think that jacket was made for me, just call me Tonto...This jacket is priceless, so it looks like we'll have to work something else out. I'll make sure I get some pics of it tonight, it should be a big hit :lmao:
Chances are, your swingarm is aluminum, so you're not going to weld a steel nut to the swingarm.
What I did in the past and should probably do before i sell the bike is to have a 1" cube of aluminum welded to the bottom of the swingarm. From there you drill and tap it. Voila!
where can you buy a cube of aluminum?

Chris,
You cant use any old hunk of aluminum. 1000 series is too soft, 7075 does not weld up very well. A standard chunk of 6061 will do the trick. Measure your other side and let me know what the shape and dimentions are and I will send you a piece of weldable aluminum pre-drilled and tapped. Then you can have someone weld it in.
If the shape is round I need to know the outside diameter, inside diameter, and the length. I am assuming your bike has the standard M6x1 thread for the spool bolts.
If the shape is rectangular I need to know the length, width, height, and hole location.
Tape measure is ok, but a caliper would be the best tool to take the measurements.

Guy Bartz beat me to the punch (Damn that guys fast! LOL), I was going to offer the same thing, but since he already has access to the correct aluminum he's more than welcome to do it! :thumb:

Typically from the same person who has the equipment and capability to weld it on...
Thanks everyone, I'm going to take Guy up on his offer.
Guy, here is my email address.

Hit me up so I can contact you off the board. I'll take the measurements sometime in the next week.
If the swing arm is aluminum have someone or your self drip weld steel from the inside of the swing arm on to the inside part of the spool bolt until you build a stem out of the hole. Then weld a washer or a nut on the stem of slag take a vise grips and turn it out toward the inside. I have done this in the exact situation your in and it works great.
