Title: Can someone explain the points system?
Post by: gpz11 on September 20, 2006, 03:33:52 PM
OK, I was just looking at the class points and the overall points and things just don't add up to me.

What are the adjusted points vs. points vs. performance index?

Also my class points don't add up the my overall points.

Can someone explain these things to me? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

You need to read the rulebook (http://www.ccsracing.us/forms/2006/2006%20Rulebook.pdf) regarding what classes are counted towards overall points. (Not all of them are.) This has been covered repeatedly here, but I posted the link to the rules in case you didn't have it.

I did a search for it figuring some one has covered it before but I wasn't able to locate anything.

I also just did a search on the rule book for "performance index" and got no results. I also tried "index" and got no results either. No results on "Overall points".

If you could tell me the page number in the rule book, I'd really appreciate it.

Ok, I just found the answer about the overall points.

From the rule book:

8.2.3 Regional Overall Championships (Amateur and Expert Divisions) will be assigned
in each series by combining all points scored in all SuperSport classes, all SuperBike
classes, all GT classes, Lightweight Grand Prix, Middleweight Grand Prix and
Unlimited Grand Prix by each Amateur ranked rider during the season in that series.
The rider with the most points will be recognized as the Regional Overall Champion.

Section 8.  Specifically 8.2.

There are double points weekends which count for twice the points.

Performance index =

(# of riders - number of riders who finished ahead of you) / number of riders * 1000

For intance, if you came in 3rd in a race of 10 riders,

10 - 2 = 8
8/10 = .8
.8x1000 = 800

Your overall performace index is an overall average of your class averages.

Are they calculating these by hand?

Yes, they use the SuperDave system, however, so they can only count to 21.

I know the performance index formula, but what is the formula used to calculate the P.I.-adjusted points?

I want to make sure mine are correct.  My regular points calculations don't match those of CCS, so I doubt my adjusted points would match.  Additionally the points printed out at the track don't match what is on the website.

since we are explaining the points system:

What does it take to become expert? Top 5 in class, overall, performance index, actual points, a heart felt letter, cookies?

I'm a yellow plated sissy, and I'm on a 10 year plan to eventually become expert (I just like the white plates, that's all).

Quote2.2.4 Riders will be issued Regional Series licenses as Amateur or Expert.
A. CCS Officials will issue Expert licenses to those riders with proven
experience or ability as follows:
(1.) Applicants who are renewing a CCS Expert license or who are
applying with an Expert license from one of the racing organizations
listed in section 2.2.1.
(2.) Amateur riders with the organizations listed in section 2.2.1 who are
being upgraded to Expert.
(3.) Any Amateur Rider who in the opinion of CCS Officials has the
ability and experience for Expert competition.
(4.) Any Amateur Rider who scores 400 points within a 12 month period.
(a.) CCS reserves the right to deny Expert Status to any Amateur who
meets the point criteria and has not shown the ability and experience
for expert competition.
(5.) Any Amateur Rider who wins a Series Championship or finishes in
the top 5 positions in any class at the Race of Champions.
(a.) CCS reserves the right to deny Expert Status to any Amateur who
meets the Series Championship or Race of Champions criteria and
has not shown the ability and experience for expert competition.
2.2.5 CCS Officials will issue an Amateur license to those riders who fail to
meet the Expert qualifications as listed above in Section 2.2.4, A (1.)
through (5.)

basically 400 points in 12 months.  I think I'll go for it next year.   :lmao:

I know that but do they count up the individual class points or just the overall points?

Overall. You can refuse the white plate once, with a petition to CCS.
They reserve the right to refuse your petition, so cookies may help.

Me and my gal Betty (Betty Crocker that is) can make some mean Brownies!

Shoot, if they only count the overall points, I'll have to move myself up.  :lmao:

Thanks for the answers folks!

Overall points * Overall PI.  however, this excludes certain classes that don't count towards regional championships (see rulebook or list).

Don't know what to tell you.  I track my stuff personally and calculate every race and weekend in the same manner that CCS does, so if there's a problem, I instantly know it (like the ACC weekend, and them missing certain classes, etc) and can get it resolved.
