I think I'm going to get a jap. twin to race next year and I'm wondering about issues people have with them, like weight or power, or handling.I like the rc51 and the tl and sv, you know I like most twins.thanks.
I have no issues with my '03 RC. Penske triple clicker, TSE massaged forks, Michelin PRC front and usually a PR5 rear. Only issue you may have is it's weight to throw around. Start workin out! :ahhh: Take a close look at 1st gen SV 650s and also the SV1000s. Tray Batey is cleaning up with an SV1000, but that's Tray!!
I'm racing an old buell now, do they weigh more than that?
I have no idea, but you might wanna check out the new Buells too. Which one do you have? M2, S2?
You should look into getting a Buell XB. Lighter, better handling, better suspension and better brakes than the tube frame bike you're riding now. Plus Buell is offering a generous contingency program, for experts and ams.

I'm racing a x1 now, but I'm going to get somthing that I dont have yo put so much money into to keep it working.(jap)
don't race a twin myself, but sv's are everywhere and parts are easy find....oh yeah, and you can race a 650 in just about any race you want
I know a guy who wants to get rid of his fully setup rc51 with spares after this season if you're looking.. :ahhh:

I hear that RC51 has ohlins forks and shock, slipper clutch, marchisini wheels and so much more too!
I have a XB12r and if you keep it stock (for reliability) and if it's set up properly, you should have minimal maintance. I got mine together in June and once I got the mapping and suspention issues worked out, I have had no problem withit what so ever. Going from my M2 to a XB was like going from a K car to a Viper! Its faster, lighter, handles much better and is very competitive. (I just need bigger balls to keep up with Mr. Paul James though! :banghead:
I would shy away from an RC51. they are good bikes, but you can only race them is a couple of classes. An SV is a great bike for all of the lightweight stuff, and they are cheap. The 03 models seem to be a little more prone to crank problems than other models. All models can easily spin rod bearings if you over rev them while downshifting. I have heard of 03 and newer SVs making as much as 76hp with a pipe and remapping. XB 12 is also good because they actually pay contingency. If you are a large person 200# or more the XB 12 has a ton more torque then the SV and will pull a larger rider out of a turn faster ( ask Don Cook ). But they will cost about double of what you could buy an SV for.
As far as maintenance, I can only comment on the SV. I like to get into my motor every season. The rings wear out after a season or two. Many people have rode hi milage street bikes on the track for three years without touching anything. They don't seem to blow up they just lose HP.
hopefully after this year I'll be able to find either a rc51 or a sv1000. tell your friend to post it when hes done with it.
I'm selling an '03 SV1000.

Make an offer? I'm probably willing to go lower than you might think.
If interested, let me know and I'll tell you all about it.

"Large" person? Is that payback for the crack about your grid position in Key's wheelie thread? Or are you trying to pysch me out since you'll be joining us with a white plate next year? Just wait, I now have all winter to turn this 210 lbs. back into 180 lbs of sinewy buffed muscle....
I think I'll start right after I finish these cookies and milk...
Back on topic, the XB fits me a lot better than the SV did, and is easier on my worn out knees. I'm 6'2", 210lbs. I enjoyed both bikes but like to change things up every so often. I got a great deal on the XB since it has a rebuilt title and that allowed me to spend a little on the extras.

I can't say for certain, but I haven't heard of any significant changes to the program other than adding MOTO-ST contingency to the mix. Buell usually announces the details of their contingency program in January.
Great program. Cash paid for every CCS weekend in every region, no minimum grid. All XBs eligible (back to 2003).

Don,
Have you become sensitive? I here that people can have long-term emotional sensitivity after a concussion. Did you hit your head during your last incident? You stop by my pits at BHF and I will tell you I am sorry, and give ya a big man-hug. Your too much man, I'm not a large person, Bartz is too skinny ROFLOL
I am looking forward to next year!! I am hoping that riding with all of you fast guys will drag me up to speed. As far as the pysch out..... Lets just say that I most likely will not have the same bike next year.... well at least not the same motor. Ya, Ya 295# bike ,94Hp, 145# rider.... That should get the job done.... Right?
Who the hell is this Key guy you keep talking about. I don't think I know this fella
Clueless Bartz
You guys are scaring me. :ahhh:
Besides, I thought twins racing was about twin siblings hashing out their rivalries on the race track.
Man hug? Hey, I draw the line at that much sensitivity. It wasn't that big a concussion. I'll change my tag line when I think of a quote that strikes my fancy...(might be a while).
I can't wait to see what you've got planned for next year. I'm going to upgrade too. Forget spending money on engine and suspension. I'm going to paint the bike black. I was faster on a black bike and red ones crash too much. Black...yeah, that's the ticket...and more stickers...
