Poll
Question:
How many of you keep your leathers on between races and when you do, do you zip them down to the waist and let the upper half "hang" off?
Option 1: I take 'em off ASAP
votes: 27
Option 2: I zip them down but keep 'em on my shoulders.
votes: 6
Option 3: I zip them down and let 'em hang at the waist.
votes: 35
Option 4: What are "leathers?"
votes: 1
Option 5: I thought this was an S&M poll
votes: 5
An informal poll for research. Thanks!
I usually let em hang at the waist, but I think this is probably why I busted 2 seams around the crotch area even though the suit never hit the ground. Or perhaps the suit simply cannot handle my 'manhood' :D
For me it depends on the situation and the weather. If I have more than a 3-4 race break, then I'll take them off. If its a short break I'll let them hang. Usually after practice and for lunch they come off. During a practice day I will just let them hang when its hot. If the weather is cool enough I will have them zipped all day.

+1 yeah OK, that was a lot more detailed than what I said and yeah that's pretty much what I do too
'Lexa - I was wondering if you could sew little "buttons" or velcro or something inside the suit to alllow for suspenders - that way, one could leave 'em halfway on but without putting stress on the zipper.

You're not the first person to ask for suspenders. I'm trying to see how many people do the "hanging" thing so I can engineer a fix for the zip stress.
BTW, I don't have your new contact info. Can you shoot me a quick PM with that? Your leathers have been clean since 2 weeks after you gave 'em to me!

I like Kim's idea about suspenders. It'd be nice to have additional support to hold them up and not stress any seems or zippers while they're hanging.
Holy cow! I was wondering about that... PM sent!
I try to let them hang halfway but I don't have an ass so they fall to my feet! :ass:

Daaamn! I'd be all over that!
"I zip them down and let 'em hang at the waist."
I'm asking mostly for the new suits that I'll be building, but I think it would be good to do something that can retro fit into other suits. I have a germ of an idea, I just need to flesh it out.
Hey Schnorrbusch.... U out there? This thread is directed RIGHT to you! :lmao:
But I take them off if it's more than 2 races....if not - I let 'em hang.....
i guess im the only one who zips them down but leaves them on my shoulders
may have something to do with the amount of races i do?

+1 on that...
same here...
I usually take them off ASAP. If I don't have time, I use a bungie cord for a belt to take the stress off the zipper.
I leave the vinyl on all night as it is hard to always catch them, and pull them up, when I have a riding crop in each hand. :spank:

I'll remember that.
depending on time i either let them hang or take them off. depends on the time frame ... of course the double zip front really helps.
I like to take them off and run around naked w my zipper hanging out!
I will let them hang but I use a belt to keep them from falling off.
I also have used bungee chords as suspenders.
Take off if there's a break in races. I love the double zippered Vansons.
If it's hot and time allows, I take them off. If not I let them hang.
Can you take length out of the crotch/legs in leathers? My "manhood" just doesn't fill them up!

LOL!! That bootie should make up for it tho.... :boink: LOL!!!
YES Alexa, I remember askin ya about the suspenders tooooo!!! That would be sweet...
we are down here in FL region..hot.. i get into my ac'd trailer ASAP to get out of em. Put the helmet and gloves/boots in front of a fan in the trailer to keep em from getting too soaked but i rotate my gloves (3 pair)..
Before leathers had the amount of armour they have these days, we used to just tie the arms around your waist.
Rather than suspenders I would think that a strip of leather or elastic with velcro around the waist would be easier to use and would require no modification to ones leathers.
Like an "inner belt"?

That was actually what I was thinking. It could be retro fitted inside existing leathers pretty inexpensively as well.
An elastic 'cummerbund', a'la the Bohn/Knox back protectors?
not that wide, but yeah, pretty much that idea.

Is there still a "Tie me up, tie me down" store in Miltown?

I'm not sure, it used to be on Brady street, though. Rhiannon got a few of her pircings there.
Tie Me Down left a couple years ago.
Dang, they could've definitely helped with the leather situationals! Of one sort or another...
Say Alexa would you be up for an interview to advert. the shop? A little bio piece for our club's newsletter?
I once knew a girl so skinny....if she stood sideways and stuck out her tongue she looked like a broken zipper........ :sleeping2:
Alexa: The advantage to two piece is that you simply take off the top. I still prefer the two piece - you mentionned that you were concerned about the structural integrety of two pieces. Have you even seen that large tough zipper come appart in a crash?
Will start looking for a set of Alpinstar or Moto GP soon. 6'1" is going to be an issue - my current leathers are the black/red technic Chicanes 44/54 you repaired a couple month ago which are fine for length.

It's not that the zipper comes apart, but the fabric can tear and open up next to that zipper.
That said, 2 piece suits are fine for most applications, I just like to see regular trackday guys and racers in one piece suits, mostly because I've seen "identical" versions of a suit in the 2 piece version made with inferior manufacturing. It could be that the impression of some companies is that the guys who buy 2 piece suits are only going to wear them on the street. We all know that isn't so.

Give me a call, always liking the idea of a bio.
Let um hang. Unless it's lunch or some other long break, then I take them off. Vic uses a belt of some sort that he ties around his waist so that it doesn't stress the zipper. I'm not sure how he does it but I'll ask him...
