Got the SV back from 4 & 6. Approx. 54-55 Hp on the dyno, but with high (200 psi) compression. I was running race gas purchased @ Road AM. - They suspect leakey valves- What's the next step? leak-down tester - I'm starting to wonder if the Jardine exhaust bought on EBAY may be the culprit - if it's a street baffle it may stanggling the bike - which is running slightly rich.
They told me to use reg. gas - that I'd pick up 5 hp - does this make sense given that high Oct. gas ignites at a lower temperature - pre-detonation??
Steve.
If you have 200psi on a compression tester your valves are not leaking. If your ignition and jetting is Ok and you can not find any obstruction in your exhaust, I would check the cam timing. I have heard stories about the press on timing gears on the cams slipping.
High octane fuel only produces more power when the compression ratio is increased. I doubt that you will see much more than 1/2 to one hp changing to premuim unleaded gas.
This 55hp that your engine is making, what dyno was it ran on? That number is not far from what you would expect on a factory dyno.
A good running stock motor will make about 68Hp (SAE) on a dyno jet. The HP is usually 15% lower on a factory dyno.
The Dyno at 4 & 6. I'm starting to think that the popping at high revs is not the rev. limiter but possibly bad jetting. Got rid of the tach so I don't know if it's popping near red line or well before. I'm taking it to Valley racing tomorrow. Brian should be able to figure it out before the next test/tune @ Auto S.
