Title: Shenandoah at Summit Point
Post by: Roger_Lyle on August 29, 2006, 03:31:40 PM
I have seen and heard the comments about the Shenandoah circuit. We have run it clockwise and the other way. The other way seems to be safer in many ways because of the chicanes and runoff going clockwise. If you do run the counterclockwise direction, the foam bales have to be repositioned. Other than that, it is not a whole lot of work to run counterclockwise.
Running in the counterclockwise direction you enter the chicanes without staring at the walls. Going up the straight , the braking zone is before the bridge, you turn right into the chicane and then go down the corkscrew, to the back straight, turn left into the chicane and continue down the back straight.

If CCS is running a free track day there on Sept. 8 without a race the next day, I would strongly recommend that Kevin and you racers try it out. I will be having a track day on the main circuit on Thursday. If you all want to try the Shenandoah in the counterclockwise direction, with Kevin's blessing, I can get some of my guys (and me) to move the bales on Thursday night or even Friday morning. I am sure that some of you would even help out if needed. We can also put the bales under the bridge in front of the abutment. Until you try it, you won't know if you like it. But it is worth a shot. A new racetrack with new pavement; don't let it go to waste.

What do you think?

lol, I just learned it clockwise and looking forward to racing it again!  But the other way would be cool to try too.  What's the deal with the free practice day next Friday?  Will it be clockwise or counter?

This is no laughing matter. The free Shenandoah track day on Sept 8 is for CCS racers. Trying it counterclockwise would be your's and Kevin's call. Since there is no more racing on it this year, you racers have to speak up and work with Kevin. If you try it and find that you like it, more racers will turn out next year, making it a viable venue for motorcycle racing. For the local guys, that gives you more races in the Mid- Atlantic region. We already know how it works in the clockwise direction, so why not try it the other way. You can make a difference. You are the ones who are racing.

Any more comments? Who is coming out for it?

IMO I think it's getting really annoying that the layout keeps getting changed.  Just leave it alone if there arent any major issues and let us run it the SAME way during the season.  The spongebob wall was moved twice this past weekend if Im not mistaken,  which made the entrance/exit to the chicance completely different from how it was a month ago.  I'd just like for these things to be figured out prior to race weekends Just my $.02.

What are you calling the "spongebob" wall?

What are you calling the "spongebob" wall?

A temporary chicane placed around 250 feet before the start/finish line.  It's a foam wall placed to the right of the track to force riders to slow down before entering T1 when going clockwise.
