I have this discussion with people all the time, just wondering what everyone's opinion here was. ::)
Recognizing risk asa it appears , and reacting to it asap helps everywhere during flights.NJ JOHN :thumb:
Riding , racing, walking across the street are only as safe as the "operator". I've known guys who've gone literally years without an incident at the race track, and others who will leave one weekend with no fewer than 3 incidents on a regular basis.
Same goes for street riding. I've been riding for a decade, all on sport bikes, Roger's been riding for over 25 years, and neither of us has ever had a street incident. On the other hand, I meet guys who seem to get into one thing after another on a bike, and it's always someone else's fault. After the first or second time you begin to see a pattern.
Rider skill, attention to mechanical detail, and most of all awareness of the current situation will go a long way to preventing a rider from meeting the pavement.
Safer? You want safe, go sit on your sofa and watch American Idol. ::)
There are no cars coming the opposeite way, hugging the centerline on the track. No beavers, turtles, deer, skunk, possums, dogs, cats, snakes (no lie) hanging out in your line on the track, and if you crash odds are you won't hit a guardrail, oncoming vehicle, tree, pond, swamp, 10' deep ditch. Though I still love kneedraggin on the street. (as stupid as it may sound)
Alexa, I not sure your analogy "sit on your sofa and watch American Idol" is safer.
After being forced to watch it I found myself contemplating suicide from deep depression.
Thank god I was able to go out and dodge cell phone users driving SUV's to lift my spirits.
As for dodging wild life on the track, Road America comes to mind. I've dodged
raccoons and other forms of critters bouncing between the k-rails heading up
to canada corner. Back to work

See? This shows that I don't know everything. I really didn't think about the bigger picture involved with Idol viewing. Glad to se you've recovered from your suicidal thoughts!
Thanks ! I only wish now the nightmares would go away :ahhh:
Maybe I should watch survivor or better yet, whats that show of
the Hilton sisters ! Never mind. I'd prefered to be kicked in the :kicknuts:
You should watch Project Runway. At least you'd get to see some cute models.
YES ! I like the way you think. Go from bad dreams to WET dreams :thumb:
Who says there's no wildlife on the track? I've hit a turtle at grattan,a chipmunk at b-hawk, and did you see that champ car guy hit a deer at road america thursday! :wtf:
Which is safer, the track or the street? Well, that depends on how hard you're pushing, doesn't it? If you race or ride track days at wide open throttle, and street ride by carefully following every traffic law, then street riding is safer by far. But if you're the type who cocks back both triggers and flips off the safety every time you ride a motorcycle on OR off track, then the track is a far safer environment to play in.

Which is why I haven't owned a streetbike since 2001....
Hey doesnt taking a poll like this on a racing site(me favorito) guarantee a positive vote to the track choice? Kinda like a Sadaam voting technique? s'all stacked in favor of the desired outcome.so,1-I wanna change my vote because I Do Care-and now choose to get drunk/ toss midgets! TIA--2Gotta Like the safety on gun analogy, safety first all the time, you'll get your moments of glory if your'e still able to collect them,I remember an 18 year old roomate MXER at MMI Phoenix 1980 who was told by his Doc that the next time he hurts his knee(not the lo knee ,the high knee) he would have to walk with a serious limp forever-this sport can change your life-choose to let it change you in good ways-keep safety #1 always NJ JOHN

Shhhhhhhhh!
Surrounded by our excellent MW cornerworkers with outtacontrol at the helm we are the safest riders in the USA!! :thumb:
Besides, Lifeflight pilots know EXACTLY where we are when things go FUBAR. :wah:
Well I have to say the track as it feels like you have more control and some basic trust in the experience of the comrades around you, unlike the street where they are the enemy. Although I have had my only permanent injury riding while at the track. Well wait that was because some squid snuck on the track and pushed me off the track.
So street riders riding with racers on the track is more dangerous, only thing that would be more dangerous would be if they let SUVs on the track to drop off there kids at the infield daycare during an event.
I haven't had any wildlife on the track (that wasn't already riding) but I have had a Moose walk across the road on me when up in Montana. Heavy brakes and you just sit there tell it decides to move, and no honking doesn't work.
But you do bring up one really good point if anyone would want to discuss. If we (and assume we are right) agree (70+% currently) that racing is safer, why then is it still a Life Insurance nightmare as is flying skydiving, scuba diving,etc......
Well I found this while racing around the web today. Starts off with an add so give it a few seconds.

This is a self answering non-opinionated question. Check the statistics, track by far. I can't believe this was asked!!

Reminds me of the Vanagon that hit a buffalo out in Yellowstone in '93. We arrived on scene right after it occurred. All 3 occupants went into the windshield and to the hospital in Lake. Buffalo walked into the woods, relatively unharmed. :err:

FK,
Again, as was said in an earlier post, depends on the operator!
You son are your own worst enemy.
As for the answer to the question, I will say this. Regardless how hard one rides, the track is always safer for one simple reason: Everyone at the track including the emergency medical technicians are prepared for a crash; a motorcycle rider of the street kind will not attain the same care or immediateness of that care when the crash occurs.
Note that I did not say "if" the crash occurs.
