Quoting David Coulthard, "I would have thought that the bike, at a track like this, would have been quicker at the top speed. But because it doesn't have downforce, and it only has a little contact patch of rubber, then it doesn't have the grip that we have. So it's not a fair competition in reality. In terms of skill required and bravery for the lap there is no doubt - the bike is requiring more concentration than the car."

Very cool! Thanks for the link.
wish they would have shown more of the bike VS car. I always wondered about that. I always knew a F1 was faster in corners because of the tire size to weight ratio...but always wondered on the drive out, under breaking and just general acceleration.
Cool video - thanks!
cool.. 8) Never seen that one.
My question is why not make if fair and put them up agianst a GP bike

yeah, I was thinking thinking the same thing. They put it up against a 1000rr. Like c'mon get real.....I wonder who was riding it even?
If you compare lap times F1 cars KILL GP bikes everywhere! :spank:
+1, there is no comparo at all for an F1 vs. ANY rider of ANY gp bike..You can not compete with over 1k HP and 100x the contact patch AND massive downforce.

True, but it would make for a better "show". The bikes always going to lose out on braking and corner speed.
What is interesting is that the GP bikes reach a higher top speed at Jerez than F1 (At least a couple years ago that was the case). Lap times favor the F1 cars, but interesting none the less.
Toyota had a current F1 car at Laguna for the historic races. Recardo Zonta (test driver) set a new track record while doing some demonstration laps. He did a 1'06.309 (121.504 average speed). Chris V had the pole at the MotoGP race with 1'23.168. At those times the car would lap the bike in 4 laps.
