Title: Generator Questions
Post by: PolishPete on June 18, 2006, 11:05:19 AM
There is a 1000W generator on sale around here for like $110.  What could you power with a 1000W?  What are typical size generators that you guys you, and what type of stuff do you normally power?

I think most tire warmers run about 700 watts per warmer. I could be wrong. I have a powermate 1450 and had 4 warmers running off it and it worked fine. That's all I use mine for....for now.

I used a 1000 watt yamaha generator all year last year to run front/rear tire bakers, seemed to work fine.. Checked it once in a while (like once last year and once this year) and it was getting the tires up in the 160's so it was working..  Never tripped the overload circuit breaker either.  Some warmers might pull more power though like ssduc750 said..

generators are priced largely on how much noise they make and how much fuel they hold.  A $100 generator will be loud as sin and run for 2-3 hours at best.  A $1500 generator will generally be quiet as a mouse fart and run all day and part of the night with gas yet to spare.

2500 Watt John Deere generator.  Not quiet, but not loud.  I think Coleman made it for JD.  8HP Briggs engine with a big gas tank.

Honda's are definately primo generators! I handle them where I work. I have Eu2000's on close-out for $849 and the EU1000's are only $599!! I can bring em to the Wegman weekend races @ BHF if anyone wants any.

I've got the Honda 2000i also.   Only bad thing is that you can't heat  tires, make coffee and cook pancakes at the same time.

Who makes coffee and pancakes at the track! If you do, I know where I am going for breakfast next race weekend. I can even bring my own 2000i.
