Title: Lap Timers, MyChron vs. XT Racing

Folks,

I'm interested in getting a lap timer for my RC. Any comments on which one is easier/better, the MyChron Light TG or the XT Racing Ultra-Lap?

I made this decision a couple months back and went with the UltraLap. They both seem equally capable as lap timers but the UltraLap has a machined aluminum case so more durable in a crash and with the MyChron you have to buy a different kind of beacon. If you want to do split times, with the UltraLap if you have 2 or 3 guys at the track with beacons you can set one a  the main and the others as splits, this is done with a switch on the beacon where as the MyChron uses a red beacon and a white beacon. Also, while they will both work with each others beacons I had trouble triggering my UltraLap off of another riders MyChron beacon (had to be on the beacon side of track to trigger) and when I set out my beacon never missed a trigger in over 80 laps. Don't know it the MyChron was aimed a little high or low, or if the UltraLap beacon is stronger.

So you always have to put out your own beacon with the UltraLap?

No, it works with either beacon.

I got the XT, works fine.  Never used the mychron, but I'm sure it works just as well.

The only reason I decided the XT was price difference.

No, As I said, another rider had put out his MyChron beacon and I tried to use his but either it was aimed too high or low or something so I used mine. They are both supposed to work of each others beacon.

I chose the Mychron and it has worked fine for me.

Customer service was great. They hand delivered the unit to me at VIR even though they were not attending the event.

I did have one problem with the timer where it quit working. I shipped it back to AIM and they repaired the unit and sent it out the day after receiving it.

XT Lap Timer. Made by  Americans for Americans In the good ol USA. American English directions. Easy to use menu that is in American English. Great customer support and full 1 year warranty.

Tons of Features too!!
