Dave,
2006 GSXR1K
Ohilns rear, and raised it 5mm. Revalved and sprung fork, so even though at same mm in T-trees, still sitting higher.
Only ridden the bike twice now (once in the rain) once in the dry so I am far from 'knowing' the bike.
However, suspension settings (comp/reb) aside, I really don't like the geometry. Just doesn't feel 'traction' forgiving at lean angle. Also, steering seems a tad slow and feels front-end washy (just a hair).
Question; can I lower the front and rear (entire bike) to make the bike's traction more forgiving?
Can I remove the 5mm in the rear and then drop the front in correlation? Other than ground clearance (which I don't see an issue) am I helping or hurting the bikes handling, traction and feel?
TIA!
Also, update on tranny.
To recap, 2006 GSXR 200 street miles, first time on track bike would not shift from 4th to 5th (at high RPMs) no matter what.
Took the bike to a second trackday, under 300 miles on bike, bike refused to shift from 3rd to 4th (at high RPMs).
Acting like bent shift forks. Shifting with clutch, shifting correctly, never bent a shift fork in my life. I'd say there is a problem with the trans from factory. Wondering if anyone elses tranny is pooping.
FYI Dave is at HPT this weekend (just took his Racer U yesterday). While I'm not positive, but I don't think "the bus" has Wi-Fi. -Snack
Just took a quick glance at your post and noticed your suggestion of lowering the bike to make the handling more forgiving. It will actually make it less forgiving. The higher the bike's CG the more weight transfer you get with a given force. If you are constantly getting one or both ends of the bike off the ground and rarely breaking traction, lowering the bike is the answer... conversely, if you are sliding everywhere and never get a wheel off the ground, raising the bike is the answer. This is one of the main reasons to raise the bike a lot when it rains.
Leave the 5mm shim in the rear and lower the front. You need to find the # for measuring from the lower triple to the front axle. Anyone? Oh wait, just take it to TSE and you're pretty much done/taken care of. Go to the Edmaster, oh young cocaine speedball freak!! :err:

You need the 5mm in the rear for better anti squat, which is important for any bike, but really important for a 1k.
A GSXR1k just doesn't get great traction. You need to ride it like a dirt bike, honestly. Can be related to your style. You want to go fast, I know that. You need to get it into the corner, get it slowed down more than you would a 600 so the radius that you're riding is smaller...then you can pick it up on the gas a bit more.
I can PM you some more stuff if you'd like...
And, yeah, I'm at HPT right now...

ABSOLUTELY! Greatly appreciate any advice you can take the time to offer
When you passed me and Todd Bonsack in our 3500-Dually with your 1970 Civic going into BHF T1, and then backed it in......you became GOD. Your word is the Gospel.
I'll get some bike supension/Geom numbers together and PM you a little more info.
Me and Bonsack are going to Topeka this weekend, if you are going I'll contract you for the day.
Thanks!
Sounds like a plan.
Won't be at Topeka as no one set me up to come down.
Track is cool.
Ohh come on guys - lets have the geometry discussion on the board :) I've been trying to get a good baseline geometry on my '05 gsx1k and would LOVE to see what you fast guys think!

Isn't that Physics or something??? Have you tried the Bazzaz Performance Shock linkage? It's supposed to help w/traction. http://www.bazzazperformance.com/bpd_sl.html
