Title: Wheelie during practice at Roebling
Post by: phillip on June 13, 2006, 09:46:59 AM
I heard Art announce on the PA that he was going to fine an expert $100 for doing a wheelie at the start of practice Sunday. Did this happen or was Art just making a point?

Art usually has the wheelie talk at the rider's meeting... didn't hear it on Saturday and I was already on the way home before the one on Sunday.  I'd assume he meant it if he said it.  We have to remember that CCS doesn't make rules for no reason just to be asses, I'm sure the wheelie rule has to do with keeping insurance as low as possible.  I'm lucky in the fact that I'm not a big wheelie guy... but I used to do one before every session to loosen up, it really does help... but if it's against the rules then oh well.

The wheelie enforcers are Kay and Richard (track owners) at Roebling - I've seen them fine people $100 during trackdays before.  I think Art was just letting everyone know that rule.  I'm not sure if the guy ended up getting fined but I heard him ranting about it to someone.  Moral: don't wheelie at Roebling Road...period

Well its pretty much the rule here. Race director here says "no wheelies, stoppies, burnouts..."at EVERY RIDERS MEETING. Doesnt stop them. Hell some of them dont even care if they get fined for doing them. Maybe yanking points they got from that race or if it progresses beyond that, removing them from the track for the weekend with no refund. Not talking about power wheelies out of a corner or at the start, but the cooldown lap garbage. We dont need to have to clean up the track for someone who looped a wheelie and take extra time away from the races or practice.

How hard is it to follow SIMPLE RULES?

Funny, the only time I worked in 6a with someone was with Grace. Only worked 6a twice and the other time I was alone.

I'm not a fan of the zero tolerance no-wheelie rules.  I don't see anything wrong with a quick celebration wheelie here and there for the benefit of the few spectators that we have.  It's certainly a crowd favorite at the AMA events.  I'm not a proponent of turning the cool-down lap into a stunt show either though.  Since common sense can't be trusted, I'm guessing things will stay as they are rules-wise.

After seeing the 125's try to "wheelie" on the cooldown lap at the last BHF last time out, I think it should be a requirement for them.  Hilarious!!!!

I was working @ VIR 2yrs. ago at the AMA event and two riders did a burnout in turn 4 that burned two nice holes in the track :wtf:. VIR officials were upset about the matter :banghead:. Now there is sealant in those two spots. Just one more thing to hinder racing esp. on a rainy day. Wheelies I guess are fine. Rules are rules though and we want a good reputation for our group at tracks.

Well Heath theres a difference between power wheelies out of a corner than yanking one.

FL region, Henry allows wheelies ONLY to the race winners (pretty sure expert classes). Good rule, and for sure is a crowd pleaser but for the mid pack/backmarkers to delay the start of another race by doing them is silly, and dangerous. I wish i knew how to wheelie...

and if there is anything Heath and Rob know, they know about "yanking one!" :jerkoff:

That`s a great idea. Only expert race winner wheelies. No burnouts (so the track surface isn`t an issue)  I know the fans would love it. If you went so far as to designate a certain area of the track(maybe picked out for good run off to minimize time delays in case of boo boos) I bet the fans would line up!

I do wheelies on the street... and the nice policeman tells me to take it to the track.

I do wheelies on the track... and the officials tell me to do it on the street.

I'm so confused...
