Sadly I report that Xian had a somewhat bizarre crash which has resulted in him ending up in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) in an Omaha Hospital due to injuries suffered at MAM during the CCS/TrackAddix event.
Xian suffered multiple injuries when his left side and the bike had an unfortunate encounter. As of now I was told by the doctor that he had a collapsed lung which required a tube being inserted in his chest, both lungs are badly bruised, a broken shoulder, a broken collar bone, at least 1 fractured rib, and internal bleeding which is of concern due to the doctors not knowing where it's coming from yet. He is currently being given Morphine to help with the pain, but we could tell when we visited him that it was only helping so much.
He had carpooled with us to the event, so we collected all his belongs and packed them in the trailer and brought some of his personal belongings to the Hospital for him as well. Due to the doctor's telling us that they were unsure how long he would be there (3 - 4 + days) we have regretfully returned home minus Xian. I have been in contact with his sister and she will be making arrangements for his return home (most likely flying down to get him). The doctor's told me that due to the lung injuries they doubt they will allow him to fly, so he is going to have to endure a 8-9 hour ride in a car back home.
On a lighter note when we visited Xian he was in good spirits (considering his pain) and we even got a picture of him in the ICU which he would like posted here. Somehow while we were there the side of Christians bed got desecrated with racing stickers to create a more familiar environment, we even think we know who did it! :thumb:
I wish you a quick and total recovery Christian, good luck!
I'm a local to Omaha area and my son was one of the MAM staff that helped get him collected from the track
I've been in this situation myself with an accident away from home
if there is ANYTHING I can do to assist with Xian or getting him home, please do not hesitate to ask. I'm retired from the Air Force and am currently not punching a clock for anyone so my schedule is pretty flexible

Heal Fast Brother!
I hope you have a speedy recovery.
This sucks. Heal fast Xian. I suffered similar injuries at Willow Springs in 2000. You're in for a long car ride and lots of sleeping in a Lay-Z-Boy once you get home. All the best.
Prayers for you Xian (yeah, I know how you feel about that....)
Just know that you are in our thoughts. Heal up quick.

X, you're in my thoughts. Heal fast!
Sucks.
Get better, Xian..
Bike in bad shape? Usually seems like physical injuries are the inverse of crash damage.
MJ...did you get him the bone stuff?
Get well Xian....
Maybe the title should also say (But he's going to be OK) cause I thought the worst when I saw that.
Damn.
I see the hospital bed now has 'sponsors' tags on it now
I'll burn some incense, bite the head off a bat, and sacrifice a virgin for you X. (Like among the people I know I could find a virgin....) Maybe I'll just say a prayer instead? Dude, that blows. I'll be up in your neighborhood starting Wednesday night for AMA. You've got my number. Call me!

The bike faired well, it was covered with mud and grass due to the rain that had happened the 1st 1/2 of the day. It has very minor damage like a broken lever and some new texture added to some of the bodywork.

I added 'OK' to the title, but the doctor had told me not to discount the severity of his condition, despite his positive attitude there's reasons he's in the ICU. I also remembered after seeing the picture that they were not giving him anything to eat or drink (does have IV though) because of the unknown internal bleeding, he has a tube going down to his stomach keeping it empty and any blood out of it.
Originally after the crash he was choking on blood and the Life Flight helicopter was called, but Xian was able to get breathing before the helicopter was airborne so they cancelled the flight since just by chance the ambulance there at the track had a higher level response team than the helicopter did. It was about a 1/2 hour drive into Omaha where the hospital is at vs. an 8 minute flight, upon Xian urging them to call off the expensive flight they felt it would be safe to transport him by ambulance. Xian actually removed his own helmet while adreneline was still masking alot of the pain, the response team was also able to remove his leathers without cutting them, though Xian doesn't remember them doing it.
Man, I just HATE to hear about stuff like this, especially when it's one of my friends.
Yeah, those flights usually cost $4000.
Where's he at? Immanuel? Clarkson?

He's at Creighton University Hospital (St. Joseph) which was the designated emergency response Hospital for that particular event.
Roger that...
Watching the storms move through on Sat I got to talk with their 'medics and EMTs, hanging out at the concessions. Quite competent and alert crew with communication skills, on the ball. Thank God.
Heal up X. Can I see the Pit Bull stand for the bed you got there? You got LP to sponsor your ICU stay? Damnnnn Get Well.
Hey Xian, I know you can't read this now, but we're thinkin' of you Bro. Get well FAST!
Where's the Spyder Sticvker on that hospital bed?

Xian, get well soon. Lots of people here to help out if you need a hand.
So I suppose I don't really need to be checking this thread every 2 hours....
Wasn't looking! Not worried! It's just X. No big deal.... :ahhh:
Heal fast Xian! Hopefully we'll see you out there again soon!!
Hi everyone -
I'm Xian's mom, and he asked me to read the thread to him over the phone. He is very grateful for all of the help and the blessings that everyone has given. He's feeling better, but he's still in the ICU and we do not yet know when he will be released.
Xian also feels honored to have so many wonderful friends, and I am thankful to all of you who have brightened his day by posting your messages
Xian hasn't been able to view the photo of the hospital bed slathered with stickers yet, but is looking forward to seeing the soon.
Thanks to all!
Lucinda Rost
OK, I admit it. I looked again. But there was news! Thanks Lucinda for posting. Now I can sleep tonight!
You rock X!

Hi Lucinda,
Thank you so much for the update. I cannot believe that Xian was interested in the forum laying there in a hospital bed. What a goof!
When you get a chance, if you find out how long they plan to keep him, it would be really cool to have room number and contact for him..Thanks again.
I feel like such a putz for not checking in on X before I left Omaha :banghead: Guess in the back of mind I was hoping that he'd be discharged today after all the precautions got checked out.
Saturday I didn't realize it was X that went down until we started checking the timing software to see which #13 was on the Track at that time. Big feeling of helplessness when I realized who it was and they started talking about flying him out :wah:
(Sudden image in my head of the Captain (me) talking to Gilligan(X)... "Don't worry little buddy, the Professor said he can get you fixed right up!")
I'm off all this week and would be happy to do anything I can to help get him back to the Dairyland. I'd be glad to help in anyway if it's needed. Please contact me at Recplex@aol.com
I did hear one good bit of news from the hospital.... the Doctors said your injuries won't force you to give up the Devil Sticks!
Rick Weaver
So what class does that bed run in?
Get well soon.
Glad to hear that recovery seems imminent. We were all REALLY concerned when they shut down and rolled the ambulance out of the track at a high rate of speed with lights & sirens on. Then we later heard that Xian had a head injury & broken shoulder. Glad to hear the facts here and get things straight.
Here's to a VERY speedy recovery!
Heal fast and heal well!
Hey everyone, just got off the phone with Xian, and he's doing better today. I guess his bruised lung is the worst they've seen in a long time. He actually sounded remarkably good, although they still have him on pain meds.
He's really really bored and feeling a bit isolated. They plan to keep him in ICU for another day or so, and then move him to a regular bed later in the week for another couple of days before releasing him.
He really appreciates all of the well wishes. He's got a calling card coming and I'm sure then he'll be able to kill some time bench racing. :blahblah: If you want to give him a call, let me know and I'll see what I can do about getting you a phone #. I know they want him to rest, but he could sure use a little bit of cheering up.
I'll keep saying prayers...
just heard...nothin' good
heal up fast man
Get Well Xian!! Be nice to the naughty nurses!! :spank:

He was first to the hospital, and it looks like his contingency stickers are there so isn't he due some money? -Snack

Well this expalins why you won't answer my email as to how the week end went. Very sorry to hear about it. I'll be saying some prayers for you & wish you a complete and speedy recovery. Knowing you, I'll bet your sitting there wondering how you can make it to AMA week-end. Hope you make it in time, but it doesn't sound like it. I'll give you a full report and personnally make sure they promise to come back next year. Remember, if you need anthing local, my mom & sister live there. Call my cell if you need anything. I'll be calling you soon - working on getting your room number now.
Hello all,
I am Xian's sister Kelly. I have spoken to him several times, and you don't know how much he is enyoying the feedback here, and the contact that he has had. I have read him all the most recent well wishes and thoughts. He is truly appreciative and a little sore from laughing at some of the remarks. I am very grateful to all of you that I have spoken to, and those whom I have not, that have offered your help, and support. That means a great deal!
Thanks for everything you are doing and your thoughts and prayers!

He did indeed crash in the Saturday practice at turn 8. He was able to move after the crash due to adeneline being of assistance, he even took off his own helmet, but he was injured for sure.
Just got off the phone with X. He's BORED! And he has hiccups....
Best wishes from Vic and I. Heal up quick. Our thoughts and prayers are with ya.
***UPDATE***
According to an E-mail I recieved from Xian's mom he may be moved out of the ICU on Wednesday or Thursday, but she is also being told he will be there for at least another week! :banghead:
I sure wish I knew someone out there who could at least visit him, being alone and 9 hours away from home flat out SUCKS for him!

Know any good rent-a-stripper places? From the Playhouse maybe? :-)
Hello everyone,
Xian's sister, Kelly again. Just spoke with the hospital. They will be moving Xian to a regular room today, as soon as a bed is available. The nurse I spoke with said he is doing very well, and they even hope to remove the chest tube today. She told me that he may be released as soon as this weekend, but wouldn't say for certain.
If anyone is interested in helping financially, it was brought to my attention that there is the Wegman Fund out there that could help Xian with any of his financial expenses. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution for Xian, they will keep a separate accounting of those donations for him. All thoughts, and well wishes, and all other help that has been offered are most greatly appreciated!!
Donations can be made at:
www.wegmanfund.org
Thank you for your thoughts!
Kelly
Xian! Stop practicing for the back cover of the calendar! It's not happening. :kicknuts: :lmao:
Get better soon! Since I'm local, let me know if you need anything!
I think we're going to need to figure out a way to get Xian back from Iowa if he is not allowed to fly. Anyone who has availablilty to transport him. please give me a call. (414.327.0967) We're not sure whether he will be released this weekend or early next week. I'm sure it will depend on Xian's progress.
According to Kelly (Xian's sister, who spells her name like a normal person), the transport vehicle will need to have a decent sized front seat that is able to recline, and you will need to make frequent stops so Xian can get out and move around.
Kelly will be co-ordinting final details, so again, if you can help let me know and I'll put you in touch with her.
Thanks everyone!
I sent X a care package of magazines today. He'll get to choose from fast bikes, fast cars, and fast women. Wonder which one he'll look at first?

;-)
They told us (the locals) that it was going to be a local community center
Alexia even though I haven't ever met the guy I would be willing to help out with transport home. I have a Pontiac Grand Am (2 door) but the front seats are pretty comfortable. I have both Tuesdays and Wed off of work. I would call ya but it's pretty late. If there's a way that I could meet someone somewhere and get him moving along I would be more than willing to help out. email me at msbrit1athotmail.com
I've stayed in touch with Xian's sister and MOM and have offered to drive back to Omaha from Rockford (near Blackhawk Farms) if need be to get him home. If we could set up a relay that would be cool, as long as he is comfortable, that would put less driving time on any one person. Co-ordination of times and meeting locations would be the big thing, but I am willing to miss some work if need be to get him home. I have no problem doing this for free - he is going to have enough financial stuff he is going to have to work thru when he gets back on his feet again (after not having any income for a while).
I think the big thing now is to find out what the Doctor says tomorrow to the family about how long he will stay in the Hospital and any transportation limitations he may have when released. There may still be a possibility of the family being able to transport Xian, but in the event that doesn't happen I think what would be helpful now would be to know what section anyone willing to drive could help with between Omaha, Nebraska and Milwaukee, Wisconsin and what days and times of day they could do it. Rockford is about 2 hours away from Milwaukee and is along the way from Omaha, I can get to the Iowa border in about 2 hours - Des Moines, Iowa in about 4 to 4 1/2 hours and 6 1/2 hours all the way to Omaha. Travel times are going to be increased slightly due to the possibility of having to make extra stops for Xian, but it shouldn't be a huge amount more.
I thought we left him his pedal bike so he could get home? Some people are just plain lazy.... DOH!!!! LOL!

Does Xian live in Milwaukee? M.Williams- are you in Rockford? I'm in Janesville- I could meet you in Rockford and take the last leg to Milwaukee, IF it's in the evening with the swap taking place around 5 pm or later. I cannot get vacation next week, I already have Monday off. No charges , or baggage fees, just leave my seats dry please. :thumb:
Alexa-have you heard from anyone on this coordination effort?
I've heard from one other person. Xian lives in Plymouth, but his sister lives here in Milwaukee, and may need to be staying there as he'll need physical therapy.
PM or email me your phone # and we'll go from there. Thanks!
Just saw this, X, get well NOW dude!
Hope recovery is fast and full!

Update on transport:
Thank you to everyone who offered their services. It looks like Mike Williams and Kelly are going to be able to work it all out. Kelly assured me she would keep us updated on Xians condition. They're getting conflicting reports on release date and so on.
Again, if you'd like to make a donation to help out, the Wegman Fund (http://www.wegmanfund.com) will accept donations specifically for Xian.
Get well, X...

Hello everyone, Kelly again...
I have spoke to Xian a few times today. I have not received any official confirmation yet, but it is appearing as though there may be some likeliehood that Xian may need surgery for his lung. He was to see a specialist today to get an official recommendation, but as of yet, I have not heard whether or not he has seen the specialist. If he has the surgery, this will likely keep him in the hospital for another week. If he does not need to have it, he will likely be released this weekend.
On a happier note, our mother will be leaving LA tomorrow [Friday] to fly to Omaha to be with Xian until he is released. She should be in Omaha about 6:15pm. I think that he is looking forward to some company and someone to help sort through all the communication between the medical staff. 8)
I will update again, when I have some more concrete news. Thanks again for all the support!
Kelly
Okay, me [Kelly] again...
Just got off the phone with Xian. It seems as though the doctors have recommended NO surgery, but have instead opted to treat his "unhealing" lung as pneumonia [sp?]. He is going to put on antibiotics, and kept in the hospital for 7-10 days. If the lung does NOT get any better at the end of that time, Xian said that they told him that they will need to remove 50% of his lung. He said that the docs told him that is nothing to be alarmed at apparently, because supposedly people run marathons with 75% of their lungs removed??
So, let's hope that the anti-biotics work, and that it heals itself...
Holy crap! Let's hope it heals. So, what does he need? CD player and some CDs? A good book or 2? I'm sure he'll be crawling the walls w/ boredom.
Let's get a care package tohether and send it on!
He had an IPOD with him he was listening to on the way out to MAM, I believe that was in the bag that we brought to him at the Hospital, but I'm not for sure on that?
If theres anything that I can do let me know. By the way if you guys need a place to say on the way back from the hospital to Mil let me know. We are located in Cedar Rapids Iowa and we have an extra bed and couches if needed.

I just spoke with him, he still has the chest tube, the thought that they might be removing it today but I guess they are waiting to see the results of today's chest X-ray. So, not much has changed from yesterday.
Will keep you posted, if I here of any news.

This is what I was told by the specialist, that I saw for my Lungs
The good news...
I'm coming along nicely and there is nothing more that can be done.
Right now, I am good as I will ever be again. The isn't going to be much more improvement.
The Bad news...
As good as I will ever be again, means that I will not be back to the way I was before.
My lung capacity is noticeably less then it was before, while it may improve some, it won't ever be 100% again.
There is a portion of my lung that is damaged and will never get any better.
There is still fluid in the left lung and scaring.
The damaged part may not be a problem for now..
I was assured, that it will be a problem at sometime though.
At some point, I will need to have the damaged part of the lung removed.
That could be next week, or 20 years away...
Now the Orthipaedic Doctor...
The Good news,
I won't have to have surgery for the broke Scapula or the clavical.
Both bones are sitting in the proper place for them to heal.
To quote the doctor "you are charmed", reffering to how the bones are sitting.
Now the Bad news...
He believes it will take 3 months for a full recovery.
And there is nothing he can do, to make it heal any faster.
So, with that said...
I have no idea when I will be back on the bike.
Reguardless, I will be walking the pits for the next Black Hawk race.

Thanks for the update. Talk to ya soon!
Worse comes to worse, bring some white painters pants and white shirt and come out and wave flags. Get to still be involved with racing cornerworking and I'm sure you can at least use a radio one handed.
Well, you're still alive.... :banghead:
That's our K3...all sympathy. :jerkoff:

I think I hit modify instead of quote. Too funny.
See it was hot here Friday, and the AC is out. I am absolutely no good in the heat! :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh: Saturday we bought a new unit, but it won't be put in until tomorrow most likely. I'd keep checking your other posts. I might just slip up again! :lmao:
