Title: Ohlins Rear Shock Settings

I have an Ohlins 46PRCL rear shock on my 2000 Ducati 750SS. The owners manual says to start your adjustments from the "Factory Delivered Settings". Problem is the bike had the shock on it when I purchased it and I doubt the shock hasn't been adjusted. Nothing noted in the manual about what the factory setting were and I can find diddly squat on their website. Anyone have any ideas as to how many "Clicks" from bottomed out the factory setting are? Thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks in advance.

  OK, I could not find  preferred settings for the 750 SS. However, here are the preferred settings I used on my ST4s that were a GREAT place to start when you have the Ohlins rear and the Showa forks;

Forks;  15 clicks compression      8 clicks rebound     23mm preload


Ohlins shock;  18 clicks compression    11 clicks Rebound     13mm preload


This specs are from Ian Fallon's Ducati Desmoquattro Performance Handbook released by Motorbooks Workshop. It's a HUGE refernce for tech specs, history, etc.. I miss my Duc... :wah:

What Todd's got for you should be a start. 

But, like your forks, you probably need to check into if the rear shock spring is remotely close to what you need for what you're doing...racing.

Well, It was in race bike form when I bought it and was built by BCM Ducati. It isn't a stock rear shock. The forks on the other hand are a whole different story. I may try to get a set of adjustables from a 900SS which would be a vast improvement.

Would be very worth while to check the numbers on the rear spring to see what the rate is, and find out what the rate should be for you.  Yeah, it's not stock, but that doesn't mean that it has the right spring on it for you, or that is had the right one on it for the previous owner.

I don't know where you live, but Superbike Italia is in the Chicago suburb of Lyons.  They are the Midwest Ohlins service center, and did a remarkable job setting up my GSXR.
