Title: Anyone else having transmission problems w/ 06 GSXR?
Post by: Speedballer347 on May 01, 2006, 12:43:22 PM
250 street miles, break in, bike shifted flawlessly.

Took it to Putnam, and shifts perfect from1st to 4th.  wont shift into fifth and if you repeatly (3 to 4 times) hammer the shifter and it does (rarely) go into 5th, wont go into 6th.
This only happens at 9-12RPMs, at lower rpms bike shifts fine.

I adjustsed the lever until there was just a hair of play and it shifted better but it still took  2 to 3 hits to get it to shift.
Adjusted the  lever to have ZERO play, and shifted about 85 percent of the time.  Adjusting the lever past the point of zero play, so actually having negative play, cured it.

With normal clutch lever play, shifts fine from 1st to 4th, then only does it at high revs.  Anyone else experienced any thing like this on thier 06 zooks?

Had the bike at Putnam this weekend.  Only had a set of take-offs that had been laying in the backyard/sun since 2002.  Just went out to get used to the throttle.  Even with a dry-line, the tires were slipping at 'rain' lean angles, so I had to putt-putt through the corners all day.
Brakes were incredible.  I can't believe how fast this thing shaves off speed.
Power is is there and extremely friendly and easy to use.  Bike was pulling the front wheel out of bus-stop, dead-bear and also onto the straight.  Handlebars were 'light' and wobbling (controlably) from accelleration all the way down to the hump towards 1.
My tires were scary so i couldnt do anything, but I could tell this thing will go in soooo deep and turn on a dime.

This thing feels like a GP bike.  8)

How are you shifting?  I mean, mechanically...  Let off throttle, shift, power shift, ignition cut out?

sounds like you bent a shift fork.
Pretty common with guys who switch to GP shift and use too much pressure on the lever.

Here is a stupid question.....

Are you absolutely sure that you have completely removed all the weight off the shift lever before the next shift?  If you were to say grab the downshift and cover the pedal with your foot, it would not allow the next shift.

Using a slipper clutch and grabbing multiple upshifts without letting out the clutch and I've missed a gear or two.

Rumors are starting to fly that these things(both 600 and 750) are having trans issues. It`s definitely early though...... ::)

I had my first race last weekend with my '06 K6, have no trouble at all with the transmision, the brakes are awsome, corners like a mouse, shifts real smooth and fast; but there is NO POWER at all. Older bikes (2004-2005 GSXRs, F4i, older R6) over pass me on the straight like I was pulling my trailer.
I had no mods on my bike yet. other than sprockets and race tires; but it doesn't soupused to be fast enough even stock than mild modified older bikes??
Im really disapointed on the power, I hope that with a good exhaust system, air filter and PWC will speed up a little because Im thinking in going back to my old 2004 GSXR 600.

PVD didn't like the way his was shifting at RA either; put Silkolene in it and said it got better.  4T Race I think??

Yeah,

the wound on my shift toe is finally healed.
Started out missing 4-5 gears per lap at Road America. Had to come completely out of the gas, anything over 13k and forget it.
Put Silkolene Pro4 in and it got noticably better, went down to 1 or 2 missed gears per lap.

Hope it comes in more this weekend.

How many miles do you have on it? Are the rings seated yet? That will make a noticable difference in itself.

Ring seal would probably be done in about a hundred race miles, easy, I'd say.  I'd be a bit spooked by this Suzuki shifting stuff.  I remember when a Suzuki trans seemed bullet proof...

Yeah,

I believe this is a new stacked/cassette type setup for them (similar to the yamahas).
I have 2 races and 2 track days on the bike and it does seem to be getting  better, and the Pro4 seemed to help as well.
We will have to see after this weekend.

Yeah, something amiss in there.
Running standard shift pattern for 200 miles on street, shifted like a dream.  Ist time down the straight at Putnam, wouldnt go into 5th to save it's life.
Acts identical to a bent shift fork, but dont see how I bent a shift fork breaking it in on the street.  Never bent one in my life, and never had any problem shifting a bike.

I got it to work by taking out all of the clutch-play (and then some).
I am doing like PaulV, keep riding and see if it improves.

Other than  that the bike is incredible.
Not so great for street around-town riding, dies multiple times during warmup, boggs/stumble/backfires under 4xxxRpM.
Once you get moving on it handling is superb and motor is smooth/linear and easy to modulate.  I was really nervous when I bought it, but once I rode it around I realized it's a pussycat.  Thermosman hooked up the Ohlins front and rear, so I am excited to get some slicks on it and ride it somewhat fast.....as long as the tranny holds up  :-X

Army of Darkness usual mod on GSXR is/was a new shift star I believe. Still hold true on new machines?

I have a race motor apart at the shop with 4 weekends 06 GSXR 600, the center shift fork is wasted ( higher gear shifting) . The left and right look great

Did it have a speed shifter on it?

I must have gotten a good one...I have had no problems with my 06 600.

I did have a shifting problem with the lever in the stock position but switched to GP, the rod rubs against the motor causing it to bind...makes shifting impossible. All I did was move the shifter back (gotta love adjustable rearsets from factory) and it was cured. I have 700 street miles and one trackday on the bike now.

I have to disagree with the lack of power...this one feels much more powerful than my 04 600. Dunno if it made a huge difference but I do have an M4 slipon (had to buy earplugs...very loud when you wind it up!!)
