I was just perusing the results from RA and saw that in one of the races there a BMW rider listed above Mr Key. Now that must've been an interesting race. One wonders whether the guy had any cylinder heads left... :o
I saw that BMW run at VIR last June.... very impressive skills!
that would be Nate Kern.I race with him all the time.He has the #1 in mid atlantic and southeast. One of my favorite riders and he tells me how i can go faster all the time and it helps.
Just a note, Ed was on his supersport bike when Nate beat him. Look what happened in the ASRA race when he got on his superbike. That old man is way fast.

Yup, on Nate's 1st visit to RA, too!!

Yeah, Ed's Big O was sick that weekend, so he opted to run the SS bike for all of his other races and save the SB for the ASRA race. Pretty quick for an old fart with back pain. (I luv you ED!) :-*
Yeah, I asked Ed how he was feeling and he said that it hurt like hell, but at least it was only when he was conscious. :D
Edgar Dorn #8 - Numbskullz Racing, Mason Racin Tires, Michelin, Lithium Motorsports
Didn't he use to race motorcycles? 8)
Sounds like a regional smack-fest to me ;D . I can attest to the Kern riding a BMW faster than any BMW should ever go by the laws of nature. I had some problems (broken ankles mostly) at CMP, but even so I could only see an oddly shaped figure on the horizon at the end of the race. It's nice to see him win up there... now maybe my buds will stop razzing me about it... :-[
There was water on the track and we all know what happens when Ed is on a wet track. Ed beat Nate on his super sport bike when the track was dry.
However there was a certain 1st year expert that also showing Ed the backside of his bike until a rod flew out of his cases. I figure the little extra 10HP on Dan's bike balanced out against the old guy's experience. Oh yea, he also got the hole shot, a feat rarely accomplished by any one.
Congratulations Dan Kane EX116, You Rock!!!

The hole shot is easy it is keeping him in sight for the whole race that is hard.
Dan was in front for 3 laps, I was impressed

I can relate to that - the hole shots were always the easy part - it was making the first turn that was tricky... :o
But seriously - would have liked to have seen that race. Way to go, Dan. And Ed!
There's some nice pics of me in front of Ed going thru turn twelve on sliderphoto.com. I just wish I had some more money to fix my engine and learn some more from the old man. I'm selling my truck, trailer, and my wife's Fat Boy so I can try to get back out there this year. I think I'll be able to deal with a little razzing when I pull in with my bike on a 3'x5' open trailer behind my '93 Escort GT. As long as I get to ride some more, who cares?
I still bow down to the almighty SV mentor. ;)

Ed told me he isn't in pain, when he races, does that mean he isn't conscious when he's racing? Only kidding Ed!!!
I was there, crewing for Nate, and yes the track was wet. according to the flag workers on the starting bridge, Ed hates racing in the rain. Conversely, Nate loves it! Road America was a tough track for Nate, he'd never seen it before the Wed. before the race, and with the long straights and hills, he was hampered by limited gearing options. Even with the "Daytona" gearing in the final drive, he was simply out powered and out geared. Ed was on a 340#, 70hp SV, while Nate was on a 480#, 85hp shaft-driven BMW sport tourer, I'll let y'all do the math. In pure bench racing terms, the BMW ought to be a back-marker, not a podium finisher with a #1 plate... ::) Nate has some mad skills, & his bike can carry tremendous cornerspeed, and it's handling belies it's heavy weight & limited power.
Cheers,
Lance
Eh, Ed's SS bike is about 35-40 lbs less than that. :o
Which makes Nate's win more impressive. But, as was said, Ed hates the wet. Wish I had gone!
