Title: Dang it! Fork leg crack a big deal???

I put a new front tire on my GXSR-600 and wasn't paying attention and (like an idiot) tightened the Ohlins front fork leg pinch pin too tight - and it cracked the leg along the bottom - CRAP CRAP CRAP!!! The inner pin is still fully enclosed by the bottom of the fork leg, 1/2 of the bottom of the outer pin is exposed (had trouble attaching pics). Is there a way to replace just the fork leg or am I going to have to buy a whole new Ohlins front suspension????

And my buddies bust my balls for using a torque wrench for the 16 or so ft lbs those bolts take. Sorry about your luck, been there too. :-/

;D Same way. I even have the bolts marked so I don't have to look the torque up all the time!

Usually you can buy just the lower fork leg and just replace that. OEM ones usually run around $300 for one. No idea how much an Ohlins one woul dbe.

looks like you could get just the lower fork bottom and replace that. We are an authorized Ohlins service center and could probably take care of it for you. If you get me the numbers stamped on the bottom of the fork, I can price the part and let you know what it would take to repair. If you like, give us a call at Lithium Motorsports (712) 546-7747.

Get in touch with an ohlins dealer. You should be able to buy the fork lower with the chrome tube attached.

Don't try to unscrew the aluminum piece ( the axle clamp part that you broke) from the chrome fork leg yourself. You can destroy both halves if you don't know what you are doing.

You could always put your Showa stuff back on and be done with it.

Call Lithium. They deal in Ohlins now. You should be able to replace the leg itself. I have replaced upper and lower legs/tubes on forks before (well, I've had them replaced. I didn't do it myself).

The parts on OEM showa stuff is like $120-$200 depending on the part.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm taking it to a local shop to try and have the fork leg replaced next week. It's also good to know I'm not the only one to do stupid things. My buddy said the only way you will remember NOT to do something is after you break it the first time. I just hope I have the cash to equal the learning curve.

No doubt. Call Lithium or Dan Kyle http://kyleusa.com/ and have them replace just the fork bottom.
