Title: Sportbike class distance (CCS Staff?)
Post by: raptorduck952 on December 30, 2002, 02:10:30 PM
Will the new Sportbike class be another sprint event with the same distances as the other classes or will it be a non sprint class with a longer distance? How long?

Thus, will it also be run on each day of a twin sprint weekend?

Thanks

Good question.  I'd like to know too.  Did you e-mail Kevin Elliott?

No. Sorry, but next year will be my first season of racing.  I did not know that was the person to contact. I will go to the CCS website to see if they have his email address.

Thanks

You race AFM too?

I got an AFM license last year, but never got into a new racer school so did not do a single race. I don't know if I will race AFM this year. I will probably get a license again, try to get into a school and do just a few AFM events. My focus will be CCS.

My first ever race weekend was the final CCS Pacific region weekend at Willow a few weeks ago.

If you go to an AFM race, try to hook yourself up with Bob Karol.  He might still be the AFM senior instructor.  He and I work together a whole lot, even though we're separated by 2000 miles.  Bright guy.  Rocket scientist.  Can make you glaze over, but has a lot of truth in what he says.  I'm the motivator, he's the rocket scientist.  If you run into him, just tell him you know, Super Dave.  Should help.

Thanks I will. I have gotten a fair amount of help/advice/instruction at track days from a number of AFM fast guys and all have been very helpful.

Bob is older.  He race in the World Championships in Europe in the 60's.  Was probably the first American to do it.

Occasionally, he will be shuned by some of the AFM staff for this thoughs, but, bottom line, he's spot on.  If you can sit down and get info from him, it could help you.  There is a lot of bad riding info out there.  Bob has ridden, rides, and understands the math behind it.  It has always helped me.  I am kind of a test bed occasionally;  I'll try ideas, throw questions back at him, etc.  I won't even necessarily agree with him, but invariably, he is always going in the right direction.

Ok, according to Kevin Elliot, Sportbike will be the same distance as the sprint classes in CCS and thus will also run twice in a twin-sprint weekend.
