For the Midwest region peeps...
Heartland Park Topeka is a combined MW/GP/ASRA event in June. The familiar MW crew will be running it.
The August event might also be a MW event at Heartland Park Topeka. I don't think it's listed that way currently on the CCS website, but keep your ears open if you're going to run the whole MW schedule. MW crew would be there again also.
Heartland Park is one of my favorite tracks next to VIR and the track formerly known as Sears Point.
Thanks Dave...
Assuming you have inside scoop, when can we expect this to be set in stone and added to the schedule on the CCS site?
Is that about an 8 hour drive from Chicago?
Jeff, I don't know. It's already on the CCS site as a race for the GP region. I don't have a huge inside scoop, but in some conversations, it did come up.
From Chicago? I'm betting it's at least nine to ten, depending upon how fast you drive. Omaha is eight.
Great track. Repaved now also. I think we'll be running the full course which I haven't been on since 1997 or 1996. Huge investment.
Freakin' Sweet... ;D
It's nice having a Race at a Track only 45Mins from Home ;D
PS...I E-Mail Kevin earlier in the week asking him about this, but since he is probably in Daytona, I figure it could be a week or so before I hear back from him.... ;)
Travel is of no consequence when you're rolling in style... :P

Dave, Is that the same track we used to run when ccs first had mw races there in 94?
Honestly...
I sure hope we don't go.
I just can't get that much time off of work.
For the June event, I am already taking 3 days off.
I do enjoy the track, and I hope to make the full 06 schedule...
But adding another topeka is the easiest way for me to miss that event.. and then more events... Cuz I won't be able ALL events, why force the issue on making most of them.

QuoteDave, Is that the same track we used to run when ccs first had mw races there in 94?
Yeah, should be similar. The front straight is on the pit road like last year, and that chicane thing on the front straight (turn "zero") has been changed too. I should be heading down next week to check some things out, and do some business.
The new asphalt is unique. Had some talks with one of the people at Blackhawk almost a month back. Very unique mix. Blackhawk has help up well, so I know that Ray wanted durability and traction from this mix too. Topeka is a rather oppressive environment, so the same mix from Blackhawk should not work.

I'm sorry...
I thought style was a personal attibute...not one of objetcts...
I'm always in style...even when I slept in my old red van at Daytona.

I sure hope we don't go.
Didn't you get a new job?
There is a huge commitment from Heartland Park Topeka.
Without commitments like that, there is no growth. I will be supporting the event.

I was supposed to get a new job...
After everything was said and done, I am still at my old job.
Like Greg said... its 14 hours away!
I understand the commitment there. I also expected this, when I saw the GP only event there.
I don't know what kind of draw GP will have this year, but HPT would be a major loss for CCS if it was GP only racers there.
When it comes right down to it, I am sure I will try and make this event. However, it doesn't look promising. (If time off of work was no object, I would be there)

You're near Madison. That isn't 14 hours. Alone it's a whole lot less than that for me with my bus and trailer.
CCS can not lose at Heartland Park Topeka this year. Again, I have stated that there is a huge investment being given to the new CCS from Heartland Park Topeka, let alone to the motorcycle community as a whole.
I'll pray for some good luck to come your way. Sucks about the job thing.
I'm a stones throw from RA.
Funny thing is...
Its either time, or its money.
This year I got money :-/

My average commute to the races last year was about 10 hours one way...
::)
I know quite a few other KC Racers were in the same boat as I was last year and they all made the trek...
I sure hope CCS MW isn't at Heartland twice!!! Can't afford that road trip.

I`m all for the ROC at HPT!!!!!!! How`s Oct weather in Topeka Mike?? ::)
Eh, well, your mileage may vary.
But we're having a school program in late October there. I think NESBA is there in Novermber even.
QuoteI`m all for the ROC at HPT!!!!!!! How`s Oct weather in Topeka Mike?? ::)
um, farmers almanac suggests avg. 66 degrees for the end of Oct. last couple of years, been in the 70's...
perhaps climate, regional location was part of the reason HPT was selected to host the 2006 SCCA Runoffs 2nd week in Oct.
HPT's last motorbike track day is Oct. 23 so we shall see ;)
Like Dave said, NESBA even pulls in, early Nov.
Of course, completely new facilities, new road course [NOT repavement] and the OLD 2.5 GP track configuration (re)opened might have been a big driver for the car guys. Although only two of three configurations are represented here
http://hpt.com//store/catalog/road_configs.php
(take a right, turn 1, after turn 0....)
its gonna be fun & fast ..there is no doubt.... Dave, didnt you run that course configuration in the early 90's ?
Turn 3 is something like 300 ft radius, 8 degrees slightly banked after a 950 ft straight from turn 2.....
Quoteits gonna be fun & fast ..there is no doubt.... Dave, didnt you run that course configuration in the early 90's ?
We ran three AMA races, '89,'90,91 and a Formula USA event in 1990 there with that course. CCS ran there once in 1992, five times in 1993 and then continuing to 1999. In 1997, I think we started using a couple of smaller courses because the run up to three was obliterated and the drainage had gone down hill. That would have been the layout that was ran recently. The full course is really cool. I will miss the body english that you used to use in the old one/two area, but I think with the new stuff...I'll get over it.
I'm all for any event that makes the MW racers have to travel more than 30 minutes. ;D
I can get to Road America in 9 1/2 hours and I'm 1 1/2 hours east of HPT.
Well, that includes every track I go to. I think for most racers also.

LOL!
QuoteWhats your Average, Deer per Mile?

Higher than anybody should have to deal with. :'(
We're excited about the HPT days and we will definitely be there. I've been to the new facility three times now in the off season and will be back again this week. It is a whole new place. Awesome new paddock, incredible upgrades to the track itself (been on track twice in a car now), and the new garages and tech building are sweet! This will be one of the nicest tracks CCS goes to in the country. Since it is centrally located I think it would be a natural choice for the future of ROC competition. What an advantage to Midwest riders to have the opportunity to get on track during the regular season if that were to occur. Look at the positives, we're definitely lucky to have this track!
QuoteI don't care if you're rollin in style or not.. 14 hours each way still sucks! :-X
Ride along Greg, we'll take turns driving & making sammiches...
No matter how far away Topeka is, Baby Dolls makes it all worth it! Where else can you get such a great meal so close to the track?
;) ;D
Lappers are cheaper in KS!!!! ;D
MMMMmmm, Steak with Baby Dolls...
HPT was a favorite of ours before the changes. I think it would be a great place for ROC.
Heather
Dave or anyone...
I'm not seeing an August Heartland Park event on *ANY* schedule right now... Not the overall CCS schedule, not MW, not GP, not on trackaddix website.
Please let me know where you're seeing this.
CCS & HPT have a contract.
Dave, I hope you know what you are talking about, but it appears the schedules have been changed on the websites for CCS, Track Addix, and Hastings for the August 5th and 6th weekend. CCS and Track Addix now show that weekend is at Hastings. I hope this is an error, I really do. The Heartland Park website still shows it, but that is the only place.
The CCS Site and the TA Site show two 100% different versions of the season...
I guess we will all know if Kevin posts up (hint hint ;D ) and sets the record straight...
I hope there are two race weekends at HPT...
Have they even started paving Hastings yet? Or broke Ground for that matter???
Does anyone else think it is a little optimistic to plan a bunch events that are less than 4 Months away when there is no physical track yet??? :-X
I called and left a message at CCS some time ago for clarification.
I love HPT. I'll race there if there is a race there in August. I have better things to do that to try an worry about what CCS is doing. I can spend some dough there or someplace else.
I know others have calls in to CCS.
