Title: Gearing for Road America?
Post by: cheezer64 on February 22, 2006, 01:48:39 PM
Looking to find out what gearing  I should use for RA. I just bought a 06 CBR 600RR.
Blackhawk gearing would be appreciated also.

                    Thanks in advance,
                                                Jerry

I kept stock gearing on my R6 last year... seemed to work well.  I think some of the faster guys may have geared up... I know some of the FUSA guys changed gearing based on wind direction!   thats for RA... I'm slow at BFR

And you are fast at RA?  ;D Oh yeah, everyone is fast at Road America!  Tim owns the carousel. I saw him pass 4 bikes on the outside while waving , one of 'em was me.

My ZX6 was geared 1 smaller in the front and 1 less on the rear, hit the rev limiter in 6th just before the first brake marker on the front straight. Stock gearing is probably pretty good.

We'll miss you in Wisconsin Timmay.

I was really surprised that my streetbike 2004 gsxr750 was OVERGEARED for Road America.  I was hitting 6th towards the end of the wall on the front straight.  Jason Etter was pounding me on his properly geared gsxr1000 racebike.  It really, really, really hurt me.

Maybe I am just slow ??? ???

I used stock gearing on my zx6.. It would have been to tall if there was'nt a 25mph tail wind on the front straight!

16:45 or 16:46 will be fine.

From my experience, the front straight is not the fastest part of the track. I go faster going into 5 (entering 12 used to be just as fast using the Kink). Depending upon the wind direction I do not always use 6th on the front straight.

Agree...  Downhill into T5 is the fastest.  The back section down into Canada corner is probably 3rd as I just tap into 6th there.  Front straight is 2nd fastest as the hill takes a bit of drive out of a 600.

The Team I was part of in 04' the Team Captain ran an 04' ZX6RR in FUSA.  His gearing was 15/40 depending on the wind direction during practice sessions he would change at times to 15/41 for a Headwind up the front straight., gave him some rpm's to help.

Our team experience was T1 3rd, T2 4th, T3 2nd/3rd, T4 Upshifting to 6th, T5 2nd/3rd, T6 2nd/3rd, T7 3rd, T8 2nd, T9 (Carousel) 4th, T10 2nd, T11 2nd, T12 (Canada Corner) 2nd/3rd, T13 3rd/4th, T14 2nd/3rd  Depends on your riding abilities and skills for your exact gearing plus what kind of pack are you in.
