I'm appalled, making big claims and then not backing them up, that's it I'm buying a ZX-6RR!
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( ;D
I wonder how many will actually go back...
Welcome to Marketing overstating a product's ability... DOH!
I suppose this means the new 1000rr isn't really half Nicky Hayden either.
Jeez.
Will all the other manufacturers receive returns on theirs since I've never seen a Japanese bike on a dyno have a tach that registered correctly?
I just got done breaking in an 05 CBR600RR on the dyno.. That stock tach was almost dead nuts (thats the first time I have ever typed in dead nuts)

None of them made such a big deal out of a redline like Yamaha did... That was a huge advertised selling point for them. Not that it makes a difference to me because all it does is shift the power band of the bike up a little, but hey. THEY made a big deal out of it.
I agree. If they advertised 17.5 then the bike should redline there and the needle should either show the "true" 17.5 or show 18.5 or how much its off by.
At least they are honest enough to buy the product back from the consumer and not trying to stiff them.
Nothing wrong with a gixxer! ;D
After reading the RRW article and seeing Bob Starr's name...........
Do cluster F#*^s follow this guy wherever he goes?
I'd be pissed. Man, it just gave me a chub to think about that 17.5K redline! Does anyone remember that commercial for, I think it was the Honda MB5 or something like that? It went something like, "200 pounds, 14.5K redline. $1795." That commercial really fired me up.
But the radio spot that caused me endless tossing and turning on late night sweaty sheets was the V65 Magna ad. The rich, dripping with insinuation barritone of James Earl Jones asking, "How does it feel to hold a hundred and twenty horsepower in the palm of your hand?" AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!! I had a KZ 650 at the time, and knew it only made 60 HP. I uset to holler back at the radio, "Yeah, about twice as good as mine!" Hearing that radio spot maybe 30 times a day all summer was making me feel pretty inadaquete....
First, I think the bigger problem is that the powerband is too narrow regardless of the redline. Second, I haven't heard anyone mention the fact that Yamahas have 2 redlines (race / street). At least that is the case with the R1. You can push buttons on the dash in a certain order to activate it. I wonder if that's the case here? I guess we'll have to wait until more people get to the track with them... still going to be the bike to beat IMO.
I don't think with the stock engine management that everything has, power bands aren't so problematic even with EPA mandates.
All the previous R6's had high redlines, but the high redline is usable for over rev. This one has more over rev, and makes a little more HP than the previous ones.
Bike to beat? Don't know, but some of the riders to beat will have them.

Well put...
I want to know what Yamaha plans to do with all the R6's that get returned. I could save them some storage space....
