Tail Section that uses a foam pad vs. a Tail Section that allows the use of the Stock Seat...
Going to save some weight I would think w/ Foam, also might lower you down into the bike a few centimeters as you don't have a seat w/ Padding now, and I could see it making side to side transitions easier?
My Sharkskinz used the Stock Seat on my R1, but thinking I am going to go with a Foam pad on the R6...
Opinions please... ;D
I've ridden bikes with foam pads on superbike tails. Some of them have you higher than stock. Can change your weight distribution, good or bad. Back to set up.
A foam pad will be more "harsh" in that you'll feel more of what is happening through the seat. That's if you sit on it. If you're riding with your feet, using them to input into the bike on the inside and out, it might not make a whole lot of difference. My opinion.
Which do I prefer? Really don't prefer either. H1 has a foam pad, if I get a TZ it will have one too. R6 had stock seat. Sometimes you have to fab up stuff to build support under the fiberglass tail to use it properly. Had to do that on my ZX6E.
On the Sv I raced we had the stock seat, I really didn't know how a bike should feel in the first place.. Last season I got on the 600 with the stock seat and thought everything was all fine and dandy, then I started riding our teams Honda Hawk with a seat pad and let me tell you - as soon as I can get a pad for my new 600 I will.....Like Super @ said, You shouldn't be sitting on the seat the entire time but I just feel that I am more in contact with the bike and I can feel where my traction limit is better..I think it may because a stock seat dampens or deadens some of feel that you get through the rear of the bike..... Somewhat off the subject, my mechanic (Pat) and I got into somewhat of an debate about footpegs - you dont see them often nowadays, but he feels that foldable pegs are the way to go because if you get to the point of lean angle that you get your peg on the ground - it will fold instead of lift your rear wheel off the ground(most bikes nowadays have the pegs high enough that you will ride past the edge of the tire before you get a peg on the ground). He also feels that the rubber padded pegs are the way to go but once again I feel it deadens the feeling you get through your feet - the Hawk had both foldable and rubber pegs....At least now I have the knowledge of thoses situations and know it's not what I like in the setup of a bike...
I've only used a stock seat, so I can't comment on the foam ones.
As far as footpegs, SCOTTY I agree - I hate rubber ones. My TL streetbike has them, and my boots are always sliding around on them, even at street speeds. The thing I love about rearsets, other than more ground clearance, is that they all have some form of edge pattern that really grips your boots.
I highly recommend,

Yeah, if you plan on racing a Goldwing......
I'd race one... ;D
"Yeah, if you plan on racing a Goldwing...... "
If I get a Goldwing, where can I get a helmet to match? :)
Derrrr, I got mine @ DGY.......I like it tho - Think I may paint the new bike to match the helmet....What do you guys think? Goldwing Orange!!!!!!! Yeah baby Yeah.....
Lol, sorry, I had to comment on that. I'm all for the orange paint, just don't do green / orange. That paint scheme tends to prove Newton's theory correct way to often.
(Love your new picture... 8) )
I used a foam pad on a superbike tail on my Ducati when I raced them. I didn't like it. It did make me sit lower in the bike and I like to be up on top of a bike. The Ducati had weird mounting issues for the tail as it is so I'm sure that was part of it. I had to build up off of the subframe under where I would sit and had to build a bracket for the rear of the tail section. Made the superbike tail a pain in the rear to deal with. I use stock seats now and like them better. It gives me a more regular seating position.
The only way you can feel what the rear suspension is doing is with a very thin pad and no foam. The stock seat insulates you too much from what is exactly going on. Jim
I prefer the wood beads for proper airation and wet weather drainage :-X

That's what Mladin uses...

Will this pass tech?

Try it w/o any foam and see what you think. I used Armour Bodies on my GSXR, w/o foam, and actually liked the increased mobility in the cockpit.
Trying to race on a SB tail w/o any pad will just get you pitched off into some distant land..... You need some grip underneath as you transfer your body weight from one side to the other.
Too much padding; you receive deminished feedback. Too little and you'll be sliding around like a figure skater.
After trial and error I found that the BEST seat pad can be had at a sporting goods store that sells "closed cell aerobic work out mats". They are grey, look like "Diamond Plate" on one side and smoothe on the other and link together. The dimension is about 24x24x1/2" and come in a pack of 6 or 8. Just cut the pad out, use a good areosol contact cement and your'e done!
You'll probably be out all of 15.00, but you'll have enough to supply half the pits with the extra you'll have left over.
