OK,
just curious, how important is the number that you run?
Whats' in involved, luck, superstition? ???
Thanks

Lots of luck & lots of seat time for 1 through 10.
My first year I was #735, my grandma's address where I kept my bike, awwwww. She thought it was pretty cool. I have #123 now cuz I couldn't get #23 but it that should be just obvious. ;D
Hmmm let me see! I got stuck with 50 and since I had surgery on my right knee last year, team mates call me fiddy gimp! ;D (Instead of 50 Cent)
My nickname is K3, which is the U.S. postal abbreviation for my home town of Kankakee, Illinois. 333 just seemed to fit nicely with K3. It's been a good number for me!
Ever see Herbie the Love Bug? It wasn't planned that way, just a sad coincidence that mine's the same number as on the VW.
My wifes birthday 717.... wanted my sons 119 but it was taken... :'(
My wedding Anniversary 119. Gotta keep the team manager happy. ;D
524 - wife's Birthday...May 24
Well the first number I had was 163
on the bike 3 times...
163
163

So I took the "beast" out
13 6

racing 101....I have so much to learn
Numbers are extremely important to whom it matters. I know that I feel so much more at ease when I'm #22 than when I'm not. That applied to hockey as well as racing... it's all mental, but it matters.
Interesting,
I just let my 6 yr old daughter pick 3 numbers and put those on the form. 8)
Be interesting to see how it turns out.
Thanks

As long as it's not 666...

Sore; doc appt on Monday...hopefully I can start some muscle training. Painting is good PT; tell Anne she won't barf from the decor next time you're over..
ha ha,
Ok, sounds like its coming along. May as well do something constructive.
Not like we could be ice riding or snowmobiling or anything. :P
In quantum mechanics there is a number that keeps cropping up that no one can explain, it's kind of a 'magic' number, it's called the fine structure constant... It's approximately 1/137, so I use the number 137 whenever I can...
Sorry to let my geek show...

Wow,
since my 6 yr old hasn't quite got to fine structure constants, or string theory (silly string theory maybe), she just used her birth day and favorite numbers. :)
Very interesting though!!
Cool website for science stuff.

when i got my license they handed me a list and said pick a number, so i closed my eyes and pointed ::)
When I used to race motocross on an 80 I was 127, Moved to the 125/250 expert class I was 327, AMA Motocross/Supercross 727. So when I first started Roadracing I felt I should try to run one of the same numbers. So my novice year I ran 727, but my mechanic Pat wanted a two digit # so that it was easier to fit on the bike - so last year for my first Expert season I ran 72 and for the AMA races I had 727.... I'm glad I have the same AMA #'s but at the same time I would like an AMA number in the double digits.....Unlike AMA Motocross where you earn a two digit by finishing the season in the top 100 in points, With AMA Road Racing guys almost have assigned lifetime numbers(as long as you turn the application in by the dead line).........
QuoteMy wifes birthday 717.... wanted my sons 119 but it was taken... :'(
Add another one here, mine is my wifes b-day too. Plus now I am superstitious about running any other number it's kept me safe so far, so I wouldn't want to change.
funny story...
In 2002, I turned in my license renewal and wanted a new number. I asked for:
"The LOWEST ODD NUMBER available".
Apparently somebody thought 42 was pretty odd... ::)
But since 42 is the answer to life itself, I'm happy with it.

That is funny stuff!
i wanted 217 (my b-day) first choice, second choice was 276 (feb 1976, my b-month) but those were taken. They just gave me 280 and it stuck. Cant change now...i've had it for 4 years

I am just pulling your chain. This is my second year as an AM. Believe me... I don't even claim to be the third fastest guy out there! Just trying to learn and earn my ranks!
wedding anniv as well! 05/07/05.... 575. Lets her know that I actually DO think about her from time to time on race weekends ;D
Quote"The LOWEST ODD NUMBER available".
LOL!
That's good.
Numbers are nice for "recognition equity". Changing numbers keeps everyone confused, and sometimes it's nice to have the same number year after year.
I started with 724, because my teammate had 723, and the other got 725.
I did an AMA endurance race, so that became 224. We started doing CCS events, and I couldn't get 724, so that became 741. I wanted a two digit number, so that became 74. My AMA number was 75 for a couple years. Then they changed it to 36 for some reason. I ran a 3 in CCS then because of our run on a series. Did well in the AMA, 11th overall, and for some stupid reason, I morphed into 78...??? 1 in CCS. Seven the next year in CCS. AHRMA, I started with 271. That became 28 after running a 1 again.
I got 26 in 1996, and I've used that ever since. AMA keeps me bouncing around with 226, 62, an 262. At least I've got it down to a limited amount of numbers...LOL!
I don't know what the 26 means, but I do remember Jimmy Adamo using 26. He was fast, and a good guy.
I kind of looked through racers I admired and chose Freddie Spencer's 19 (reversed #s to avoid being too pretentious :P ). I was amazed to get a 2-digit number my first year, so was glad to have it.
The month of the birthdays of me, my son and my step daughter. 157
#174, because 74 was taken and 74 happened to be the last two numbers of my "racing" credit card at that time.
So, do you now have more than one "racing credit card".... ;D
;D Hi Paul! I race R6 , 21 is legal to have fun , so there you are # 621
JAJN 1
:)Very Cool Jorge, seems like as good a reason/system as any.
Funny to see how many of us see more than just numbers....... 8)

anything with a 4 in it keeps me happy, i don't know why, i have been lucky enough to win 4th over all 3 times in ccs and twice in fusa, other than that i have been 440 441 14 twice, 414 and 141
i was once 3rd overall, and there was a recount at the banquet, moving everyone down 1 number, i was the only happy one.
Vic's number (469) came from something along time ago... His brother on a friends beeper was 269 and since he is 2 years older he was always 469. Any sexual conotation is left up to your own imagination, but is not intentional (or so he says). The race number that I want (492) comes from one of the very first times that I met his friends. Some drunk guy kept calling his phone and talking about how he was going to "Put it in my butt 4-9-2" I couldn't stop laughing at him, so I know that I will always have a good story behind mine.
My # comes from the family, My dad had a '56 Chevy from the time he was 17, when we started racing carts in WKA, he took 56. Soon the whole family was racing Mom was 56 in powder-puff, Bro 56 in Box-stock, I had to take 56-2 my rookie year since bro had 56 in the same class. I got 56 when he moved up.
I started roadracing with 562, and changed to 56 the next year. Just like being a kid again :P
My sister's birthday... 1/14.
She passed away from breast cancer and this is one way I honor her memory.
I like 101..even if i'm up-side-down, or going the wrong way on the track, it's still the same. ;D

That's the same reason Nicky Hayden said his dad gave for using 69 ;)
When I started I was # 60 AM. I played football (real football not that foot fairy stuff) and everytime I looked at my bike, mentally it told me it was fat and slow like on O lineman. O lineman that wear 60 are fat bastards and I could not get it out of my head, lol. In Europe in the BMW Boxer Cup I was 29, thats what the Germans gave me so I didnt question them. I was 12 in 2005 due to the one of the classiest and coolest raodracers you will veer meet, Troy Bayliss. Each MotoGP round the BMW series was a support class, he never forgot my name or anyone in my crews name, class act. In 2006 # 1 (MA & SE).
Without the support from Main Line BMW (Devon, PA), BMW NA, BMW AG, Suomy, Spiegler, Thermosman, RS-taichi, Team Pro Motion Sportbike Club, Pirelli, and Spectro Oils, I would have not been able to put the pleasingly plum BMW on top!

My son's b-day
I chose my number when I was racing MX in high school. It was the model number of my dad's airplane at the time, plus it was the rural fire number at my house 8)
