Title: coleman powermate 1850 generator
Post by: cshaffer66 on January 04, 2006, 08:20:41 AM
anyone try one of these?  I just bought one and I was  wondering if you can get two sets of tire warmers off of it.  I don't think it has enough power, with 1500W continous, but it seems to be quieter than alot of other generators.

it'll totally depend on the warmers you are running.

I don`t think two sets will get up to temp.

From what I remember, the Bakers used the least enery of them all and it was still something like 1100 watts per set. They will run, just not get hot enough.

I think Chickenhawks use something like 1500 watts per set

Chicken Hawk claims 600 wts rear, 550wts front. I have run my Chicken Hawks with a Honda ex1000 generator with no problems.

Tire Bakers run at 850 Watts per set!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

I believe this is the lowest on the market by far.

Hmmm, maybe that is what I was thinking about. Bakers at 850 and CH at 1150... My brain hasn't been working too well as of lately!

I will be running two sets of Baker tire warmers.  Will the generator pop the circuit or will the warmers not fully get up to temp?  I have heard people say that before but I did not think it was true.  What temp should tires with warmers get up to?  How do you check them, with one of those guages that look like a little gun?

The tire warmer temp will be dependant upon the warmer.  Most mfr's now-a-days will adjust the thermostat based on your tire choice when ordering.

For testing the temp, do not use a 'gun thingy' surface thermometer.  You're looking for a penetration pyrometer.  I have one made by longacre.  They seem to have the market on this.  It actually penetrates the surface to get a reading of the tire itself vice just the surface.

If you're in the midwest and wanna borrow it some time, just swing by my pit...

I had a PowerMate 1850 for a while.  I was VERY loud, even louder than our 3000 watt "chinese special" generator.  I did run two sets of warmers from it a couple of times, they were PD warmers, and it seemed to work fine.

Hey "squidly"...you should've bought a HONDA generator from ME! You should know that I'd get you a super deal. Also they are THE quietest out there!!

That should work out pretty good for you Kevin, since you do most of your riding on 1 wheel anyway! :D
